Giving the Gift of Time: Decorating Grandma's Room for Christmas

Sometimes being an angel for a little bit just involves giving a little bit of your time.

Last Christmas, my best friend husband's Grandma moved in with his Mom.  Grandma is 98. They are our next door neighbors.  Last year, Grandma did not want me to bring over her Christmas stuff from her own house.  She was kind of overwhelmed at the time. This year, she did want me to.  So, yesterday I went over and got her tree, ornaments, and the animated plush animals that her grandkids have given her over time.  You know, the ones with batteries that sing songs and move around so cheerfully?

So, out of the box came the little fiber optic tree, and away went the lamp from the nightstand.  We moved a few things around, put some new batteries in where needed, and spruced up Grandma's room for Christmas.  She was so happy about it, and it made me so happy to be helping with that fun project.  I had brought over her snowman cookie jar, and we put candy in it so that she can offer her guests a piece when they are visiting.

It only took about an hour, and it was time very well spent.  It was very gratifying for me, and lifted my spirits as well.  Merry Christmas, Grandma, I love you!
