Coos Bay Trip Story #4 - The Ocean and Cape Arago:

After Cary and I left the marina, we drove a couple of more miles to Bastendorff Beach County Park.  What a beautiful place that was.   As I was finding links this morning, I discovered that if we had taken the road down to the beach, we would have run in to Shore Acres State Park.  Next time we go, I will make sure to check it out too.  It has flower gardens and everything.  I am thinking that is where Jane Kirkpatrick based one of her historical novels, about timber baron Louis Simpson and his girlfriend/wife in "A Gathering of Finches".

Regardless of what we missed out on, what we saw was spectacular!  There are more beach photos in the slide shows above.

We drover further up the road and found this beautiful beach.  I wish I had written down all the names of everything; somehow I thought I would remember.

We made one more stop at another viewpoint.  And, lo and behold, there was the Cape Arago lighthouse.  We could have spent a whole day just taking pictures at every park on that road.  There were many of them.  Maybe next time we go, that is what we will do!
