Newberry Crater: Ten Mile Snow Park

Last night when we went to bed, we thought that we would hook up the trailer and go camping on the McKenzie.  Then we woke up to not-the-best-weather and that sounded like way too much work.  So, instead, we took a drive up Newberry Crater and did some sight seeing.

Our first stop was at the Ten Mile Snow Park.  In the winter, the road is closed right after this point, but you can bring your snowmobiles, park your rigs, and ride the trails 3 miles to Paulina Lake Lodge, which is open year round.  Someday Cary and I will actually do that.  We have a couple of older snowmobiles that we bought several years ago, but we really haven't used them much yet.

La Pine Redi Mix, Inc. brought the concrete for
the foundation of the lodge when it was built in 1999.

The trails are well marked, telling you

Or, you can go cross country skiing instead.

  1. All so beautiful,Kathy! Thanks for sharing all your photos! I had to laugh at the difference between your husband's pictures and yours! He doesn't smile....just like my husband, and you have a beautiful, happy smile....just like me!! :D

  2. Thank you, Becky. I printed a bunch of them off last night until I ran out of ink! Ha! Actually Cary does smile often, but a lot of it is in his eyes. Thinking about it, I guess he only shows his teeth when he is laughing. Thanks for the compliments.
