Our Weekend Trip to Coos Bay:

Okay, if you have scrolled down this far, past all of those slide shows, you can tell that we went somewhere this past weekend.  We had ourselves a little road trip that began with a meeting in Springfield on Friday, took us to the Coos Bay area and then home again via the Diamond Lake Highway on Sunday afternoon.  We really got a nice tour of Oregon, the weather was pretty, and we took this route:  Hwy 97 south to Crescent; Hwy 58 west to Lowell; Jasper Rd to Springfield; I-5 south to Drain; HWY 38 to Reedsport; Hwy 101 to Coos Bay and Charleston; HWY 42 to Roseburg and then HWY 138 back to HWY 97 and back home.

What impresses me about Oregon the most (besides it's beauty) is how varied the scenery is, and how close we are to everything ... the ocean, the mountains, the valley and the high desert.  If we would have driven straight through to Coos Bay taking the fastest route, it would only take around 4.5 hours.

I think I'll just post separate segments about our trip instead of trying to do it all in a huge post.  The slide shows have everything in chronological order.

Oregon has been having so much rain lately that the rivers were swollen with muddy looking water.  Remember a couple of weeks ago when we stopped for a smoke break at McCredie Hot Springs and it was so pretty?  Take a look at how they were flooded on Friday:

I'll write more later ... I spent two hours last night cropping and getting all the pictures ready for the slide shows and then have spent nearly 4 hours this morning on them.  Geeze, I could have driven over to the coast again!  For now, please enjoy the slides, and then come back later on for some stories.  Thanks!
