When Cary and I went to the Museum of World Treasures in Wichita, this fact was confirmed. I'll make a slide show on the pictures that I took in there later, for your viewing enjoyment.
This is the real pitchfork that the Scarecrow hauled around during the shooting of the Wizard of Oz. It is very large, and made of wood. Or bone. Many things in that cool museum were made of bone. Wait until I show you the mummies and shrunken heads.

So, we had a wonderful trip. Lots of cool photos will be forthcoming soon. It was great to visit with Cary's son Randy and his great family, and to enjoy their beautiful home. We had fun spending time with their friends and Grandma Bev and Grandpa Hal, and also exploring the great town of McPherson (and later on, Old Town in Wichita).

P.S. - Cary, Randy, Tyler and Cameron went to the Kansas State/University of Central Florida game, and they almost did have a tornado. Cary took these photos before they announced that everybody needed to go inside the stadium for a weather delay. Jennifer, Halie and Lucas and I were watching the game on t.v. and there was lightening, thunder, and rain that made the stadium steps look like waterfalls. Hey, best friend husband, great pictures!
I'm sure glad that everybody was okay. There were actually two tornadoes reported later that day near Wichita, as the storm headed south. I don't even know if they actually touched down. Nobody seemed to be too worried about tornadoes. One woman told me that this may be because the phone/siren system was set up for entire counties instead of for individual towns or neighborhoods. That system is now being changed, so that people will know if they here a siren they had better pay attention.

ReplyDeleteI love the Wizard of Oz. When I was little it came on TV only once a year, and I used to wait for it with such excitement!
