Water, Water, Everywhere:

Natasha, over at 5 Minutes Just for Me, lives in Australia.  She has just done a blog post with video, photos and stories of what it is like over there right now due to the flooding.  Please check it out when you have a few minutes.  

Also, there are bloggers auctioning off homemade items to help raise money for the flood victims.  What a great way to help others. Natasha talks about how to get involved with that, and shows a beautiful skirt that folks are bidding on currently.  In addition to Natasha's blog, Jessa Irene at A Holiday Haven also posted about these auctions.

The Pacific Northwest is having its turn right now with the warm rain causing flooding and landslides.  There has been a lot of rain, which we are used to, but when it is warm it melts the snow in the mountains, and that is where we get into big trouble.  Oregon and Washington are getting hit hard.  Where we live now, we are not in the line of fire, but our friends and family in the Willamette Valley just might be.  On Tuesday, the ski resorts had close to 1.5 feet of snow melt all at once, filling up the rivers below.

In January/February 1996, the same thing happened when we were living up the McKenzie.  It snowed on the valley floor, and snowed lots in the mountains, and then warmed up, rained and melted everything.  Here is a photo of Walterville, Oregon, from the top of the ridge behind our home:

    The flooding over the last few years in various parts of the world has been just horrendous. I didn't realize there was such a risk in the Pacific Northwest of natural disasters resulting from the conditions you describe. Thanks for writing about this.

    You are just the sweetest Kathy. Thank you so much for spreading the word about the auction and devastating floods we have experienced over here. It sure does look like many parts of the world are under water at the moment.

    Kathy, how sweet of you to spread the word about all this. I've watched the TV coverage about Australia's floods, too, and it's just unbelievable!
