Beautiful Oregon: The North Umpqua River and Surrounding Areas

The big snowstorm of yesterday hit Bend and put it out of business for a while.  They lost phone lines, including 911, for two hours.   Even the police cars had to chain up to deal with the 10" of heavy, wet snow.  I am assuming that they have studded snow tires, but maybe they don't.  Power was out for at least 4 hours in many areas, including Bend, Sisters, Crooked River Ranch and Terrebonne.

Those of us in Mayberry (30 minutes south) got off easy.  We got a couple more inches last night, but there is only around 5 inches of snow in our yard right now.  Just right!  Still, I am longing for the beautiful days of summer.  Here are some summer photos that I took of the North Umpqua river several years ago.  If you have a few minutes, I have made a slide show of some Oregon Waterfalls at the top of the page.  Just click on it to enlarge for better viewing.

I am entering this post into both Watery Wednesday and  Outdoor Wednesday.  When you are through here, I am sure that you will enjoy seeing more beautiful photos at both of those sites too.

If you miss a day, you miss a lot!  Don't miss out on the news ... Please click here to go to my home page and see what is happening in Mayberry today.

  3. Are those waters rushing even at this time of year?

    WATER, WATER EVERYWHERE

    Water here and water there,
    Water, water everywhere!
    Some as hard as steel or stone,
    Some as soft as mousie bone;
    Some as tiny drops of dew,
    Clinging to the ancient yew.
    Where there’s water, life is there—
    Water, water everywhere!
