Writing In The Buff ~ Book Blurb Friday #10 :

The Pools of Serenity

Sister Maria was in desperate need of some peace, stillness and spending time alone with her Lord.  She was walking towards her favorite retreat, the Pools of Serenity, nestled inside the local city park.

Ever since the gangs had infiltrated the public schools in her mid-sized town, more and more families were opting for St. Joseph’s, the parochial school where she taught.  Some of the children who trusted her enough to confide had huge problems.  Amber had the age-old problem of being pregnant at 15; Skylar’s mother was a meth addict and he was now being raised by his grandmother, and it had just been discovered that Sierra had been sexually abused for years before it had been stopped.

Arriving at the pools, the green waters soothed her spirit as Sister sat down, closed her eyes and asked the Lord what she could do to help these precious kids.  (149)

    This sounds like a heart-wrenching story and one that's lived all over the world where children are abused and neglected.

    I wouldn't want to be Sister, faced with all those problems, but your blurb definitely allows for the possibility of a positive ending! I would want to find out how she does it.

    I love that you chose a nun as the protagonist of your story who will then tell the tales of these young, abused kids. It is a heart grabber for sure!

    This will bring me to tears, but I buy it anyway because it promises to be so uplifting. Lovely! So many individual stories and one very caring woman who believes she can make a difference. You've got a winner, Kathy!

    I love this blurb Kathy, it's so touching and the stories so realistic I can even visualize the characters. I don't know if I would read the book though, it's too close to reality. I now mostly read non-challenging (on the emotions) books as a sort of escape from the grinds of daily living. It's very shallow of me!

    Thank you, everybody, for your sweet and encouraging comments. If I ever do write this, I will do like Lisa says and make it inspiring and about resilience. I won't focus on any yucky details. Grace, I understand what you are saying, but if I ever do write a book, I sure would like you to read it!
