Book Blurb Friday #37: Love Among the Pines

Before we get started, I would like to ask you for prayer for Lisa's nephew Daniel, 17, and his friend.  A few days ago, Daniel's home caught on fire.  He got out, but his friend was trapped inside, so he went back in to help her out.  They both escaped through a second story window, and are severely burned.  Please keep them and their families lifted up and remembered in your prayers for a long time to come.  Thank you.

Tom Davis met Delores Lacey when they were both hired to work on the film "Rooster Cogburn" in Central Oregon.  The year was 1975.  Tom was a set carpenter, and Delores was a costume designer.  Tom still enjoys carpentry, and Delores will never quit sewing, unless her eyes give out. 

Sitting around the wood-stove on cold winter evenings, the couple enjoys reminiscing about their glory days, when they worked alongside John Wayne and Katherine Hepburn.  They loved one spot on the Big Deschutes outside of La Pine, Oregon especially so.  As the film was winding down and their love was burning bright, the young couple were married there.  Cast, crew and family members who could attend, did.  Not surprisingly, few many family members were absent!

This book is a rare and wonderful glimpse into the making of a popular movie that sparked a true, forever, life-long love.  (149)

Though the story above is something that I just made up, "Rooster Cogburn" really was partially filmed in Central Oregon in 1975.  The movie was a sequel to the 1969 "True Grit".  John Wayne played Rooster, a Federal Marshall who had been stripped of his badge for his drinking.  One day, something bad happened in a town in Indian Territory and Eula Goodnight, (Katherine Hepburn) hired Rooster to set things right and find out who killed her father.
