A - Z Challenge: "P" is for Potato

During the month of April, I am participating in the Blogging From A-Z April 2012 Challenge, where we post everyday except for Sundays. I have decided to make flashcards for the letter of the day out of my photos, and then use the picture as a writing prompt.  I am using my Thesaurus to make a story out of words beginning with the letter "P", and to have it make sense.  I have no idea of the twists and turns that it will take and usually crack myself up when I am all through.  Hope these little ditties make you laugh too.  The whole list of my A-Z posts are all listed on the top of the left-hand sidebar.

Thank you for your visit, and please come back again tomorrow! I'll be by to visit those who leave me comments, and also visit as many others as I can. If you like what you see, please feel free to become my newest follower. ~ Kathy M.

Oregon Gifts of Comfort and Joy ~ Kathy Matthews

"The Pendleton Potato Festival and Parade"
by Kathy Matthews

Pendleton, Oregon is well known for many things, including The Pendleton Round-up, The Pendleton Woolen Mills, the Pendelton Chinese Underground and perhaps even the Pendleton branch of the Oregon State Prison.  Not as well known is the fact that Pendleton is the potato growing capital of the Pacific.  Patricia Penelope Pierce was about to put an end to that painful pet peeve and put Pendleton's potatoes on the map.

Presenting her plan to her peers, she put in a call for a planning meeting for a pending Pendleton Potato Festival and Parade to be held perennially.  Ideas perculated freely at that meeting. Patricia Penelope was a perfectionist, and soon this caused the others perdition and meeting percussion.  People were perceived to be persnickity as they each wanted their favorite potato themes played out at the festival.  Still, perhaps they would be able to work things out for the good of all.

With perfect penmanship, pretty Priscilla Patterson plainly took down the planning meeting notes.  She left out most of the peppery statements without actually committing perjury; a volunteer's perk.

Pendleton was persuaded, permission was granted, permits were gathered, and the first annual Pendleton Potato Festival and Parade proceeded as planned.

Patricia Penelope Pierce was the first ever Potato Queen. She pleasurably perspired in a purple convertible Porsche, feeling very proud of herself and seeing how her own effort and perseverance had paid off.

The End.

What is funny about this story is that they are really beginning to grow potatoes in Pendleton.  I took this picture of these cute potatoes at Shanna's house last summer.

  5. Hi Peggy! Thank you. It would be a fun parade, wouldn't it? I would want to be part of the mashed potato float, I think.

Tammy, I'll keep my eyes open for that ... is it like the Red Hat Society?

Wendy, you said it! Neither would I, lol.

Huntress, well thank you so much! Glad that you stopped by to visit.
