Memorial Day Weekend 2012: The One Where We Got Lots of Snow

We woke up to snow.  I took these pictures at dawn, and it has been snowing off and on ever since.  We have a couple of inches on the ground now at 8:30 a.m., and high winds are predicted for this afternoon.  A blizzard, on May 25th?  We don't even live in Alaska!

We were going to take our new 5th wheel on her maiden trip up to Paulina Lake, but decided to hold off on that.  Central Oregon is a camping and outdoor destination point, and many folks came yesterday to get a good spot.  Then they woke up to snow.  Dang.  I really feel bad for those who are tent camping.  Hope they stay dry and warm somehow.

So, today I have some choices.  I can clean the house, work on writing projects or I can see if I can figure out how to fix my sewing machine and make those baby blankets.  Or, I can read my book.

I do think that I'll pull out some meat from the freezer and put it in the crock-pot so that we will have something good for dinner.

I hope that it doesn't last long and that we get some sun on this long weekend.  I am listening to Northwest Cable News right now, and they don't seem to know anything about our weather.  They are talking about how nice it is outside.  Huh?

Wherever you are and whatever you are doing on this holiday weekend, I hope that you have a wonderful time.  Even before we got the snow, I had opted out of going to the valley for the annual cemetery hop.  I'll miss everybody.  Here is the link to last year's event:  "2011 Annual Pioneer Cemetery Hop".

Hugs,

Kathy M.

  3. Wow. I had to rethink just where it is that you live. You obviously had a freak storm pass through. We are experiencing thunderstorms up against the mountains, but it's very pleasant here in the lowland of Puget Sound.

  4. I thought St. Louis, MO was the place for weird weather, but I'm thinking you might have us beat! Enjoy your holiday.

  6. Wow, does that look wonderful. When it is 79 at 4AM and expecting mid 90's today, snow makes me so envious.
Enjoy your week end and I agree, tent camping would be a bummer. Hope you get that break in trip in soon.

  7. Are you kidding!!!! Snow on Memorial Day weekend--wow. We will be in the 90's today--summer is definitely here. I'm going down to Independence, Cherryvale, and Erie to decorate graves today with my daughter--always a meaningful and enjoyable trip with her. Have a great weekend, my friend. Mickie :)

  9. These remind me of what we had here a while back, the mix of greenery and snow... Makes for interesting pics, but that's about it.
