2012's Doing the Pioneer Cemeteries: A Family Tradition

The Aunties: Traylor Sisters Sondy, Mardelle and Jody

Last Saturday, on Memorial Day Weekend, my peeps went to clean and decorate the pioneer cemeteries in the Drain area.  I stayed home this year; I was just too wiped out to make another trip to the valley.

My cousin Nanci, sister Julie and daughter Kari sent me some pictures of their day.  I missed being with them, but was happy that they were thinking of me.

Nanci and her granddaughter, Brooklynn.

My cousin Jen and my daughter Kari.

My new niece Alex, my nephew Ethan, and daughter Kari.

My sisters, Angie and Julie.

Akrion (our new nephew)
with our grandson Casey.

Akrion is getting the hang of things.  Next year he will begin to remember about going to the cemeteries, like he'll remember his birthday party and Christmas.  Apparently he and Brooklynn had a blast playing tag and running around through the headstones.

Hope that you are all having a great weekend.  We are trying to get motivated to take our trailer up to the lake, but haven't quite made it yet.  Maybe today, and maybe not.

Hugs,

Kathy M.

  1. You've passed along the photography gene, I see. Good job!

  2. I was wondering if families still did the cemetary clean up. I know we did as children. It was a special time.

  3. Wendy, I got it from my Mom, passing it on is the thing to do. She used to do it the old fashioned way though, when it costs more money than time.

Patti, it is a very special time. I always feel badly when I miss it.
