Take a Back Road:

On the way home today, I took the back road.  I wanted to see how the Pole Creek Fire was looking.  This is week number two of the fire.  It is at 16,500 acres and 15% contained.  Burning embers and ash are falling all over the City of Sisters and Crooked River Ranch, in Central Oregon.  The fire is still two miles away from Sisters, but that doesn't seem very far to me.  The smoke is blowing away from La Pine, but you can still see it hanging in the air in the pictures below.

There is an ideal spot on the back road with a nice view of Mt. Bachelor, The Three Sisters and Broken Top.  An abandoned ranch house sits lonely and vandalized right where I like to take my pictures.

Across the road from the house, a herd of cattle was watching me watch them.

They were kind of cute.  You can see the hazy smoke in the picture below.

It was a calmer experience than driving down the busy highway.  It all made me think of this Rodney Atkins song:

Enjoy your day!

  1. Lots of stories in these pictures, Kathy! That is some fire---the pic almost appears photoshopped, just by the sheer size of the smoke "cloud." Well done, as always!
