Sometimes, I feel as if I am surrounded by my Grandmas.
It is as if they are right here (though invisible), that they have my back and are my encouragers. When I think of my Grandmothers, I think of Grandma T., Grandma Johnson, and my husband's Grandma Pearl. Recently, through my family history research, I am getting to know Granny Talitha, Grandma Sarah, Grandma Sallie, Grandma Louisa, Grandma Barker and am remembering Grandma Bennett (who I did know, she didn't die until I was in my early teens). I still need to learn more about my Grandmothers Craig and Mattoon.
It helps that I have their pictures throughout our home, letters that they have written, and some of their dishes. A couple of years ago, when I was taking tons of pictures and involved in many linky parties, I set up this little display that honors my Dad's Mom, Grandma Agnes Johnson. I thought that you might enjoy these pretty pictures:

ReplyDeleteI love all that rosy pinkness in your photos. Lucky you, I remember only one grandma and one grandpa because we left the Czech Republic when I was very young and I never saw my father’s parents again. But the wonderful thing is that my one grandma lived to be a great grandma and knew all three of my children, two into their teens. They feel very lucky to have had a great grandma. It’s lovely that you made such an effort to keep your grandmother’s spirit alive.

Very sweet post. My granny is my only grandparent left, I wish my other grandma had seen my little girl, she took a real shine to my wife right from the start but she passed away the year after our wedding. I do like to think she's looking down on us in some way!

Oh, that last teacup, Kathy -- the one with the roses! I can almost feel my fingers on the curve of the handle! And you're right about that special connection that happens with family things: your grandmothers ARE here with you, each and every time you pick up a cup!

ReplyDeleteWhile I knew my two grandmothers, I never really felt close to them. I feel like I missed out. Maybe that's one reason why I work at being a loving grandmother to my grandkids.
ReplyDeleteI miss my Grandma B. but have never felt she was here in my life, or looking on from her eternal destination. However, I often think about her and I miss her. She was from Klamath Falls, not so very far from you. I do have a few precious belongings she gave me, their worth is only sentimental, but as I said, precious.

I love grandmas! I still have two living, at 98 years old! One, sadly, is lost in dementia, but my dad's mother is my hero--she's just recently had to stop driving (her choice!) and to move into an assisted living facility because she could no longer negotiate the stairs to her apartment.
