A-Z Challenge: "D" is for Double Daisy


During the month of April, I am participating in the "Blogging From A-Z April 2012 Challenge", where we post everyday during the month of April (except for Sundays).  Daily posts begin with the next letter of the alphabet.  This is my third year of participating in the challenge.  "CLICK HERE" to find out more.

This year, I have chosen to do a study on poet and artist, Cicely Mary Barker.  I am featuring her book "A Flower Fairy Alphabet".  Not only will you learn about pretty flowers, but I will also be giving you a few fun facts about Ms. Barker each day.

Wikipedia states:   "Barker was a devout Anglican, and donated her artworks to Christian fundraisers and missionary organizations. She produced a few Christian-themed books such as The Children’s Book of Hymns and, in collaboration with her sister Dorothy, He Leadeth Me. She designed a stained glass window for St. Edmund's Church, Pitlake, and her painting of the Christ Child, The Darling of the World Has Come, was purchased by Queen Mary."

    I'd forgotten that there were crimson daisies until I read the poem. Those double whites are georgeous.

    Awww... flower fairies are a great theme for a kids book--teaching a little about flowers and a little about imagination. I like that.

    OH my, I want some of those double daisies. Are they pretty.

    ah daisy...who hasn't strung these beautiful flowers together and made crowns, bracelets and necklaces...I'm 48 and I still do...lol. I love to see these little flowers, summer bliss.

    Hi Kathy, Daisies are always on my list, love them. I used to grow this double white one, also in pink and yellow, but over the years I lost them, I still grow some different ones. I think you chose a lovely book for your theme, flowers are always a pleasure to see and to write about them.
    Cicely Barker was a talented lady and sweet looking too.
