A-Z Challenge: "G" is for Gorse

 Join Us in the 2013 A-Z Challenge!

During the month of April, I am participating in the "Blogging From A-Z April 2012 Challenge", where we post everyday during the month of April (except for Sundays).  Daily posts begin with the next letter of the alphabet.  This is my third year of participating in the challenge. "CLICK HERE" to find out more.

This year, I have chosen to do a study on poet and artist, Cicely Mary Barker.  I am featuring her book "A Flower Fairy Alphabet".  Not only will you learn about pretty flowers, but I will also be giving you a few fun facts about Ms. Barker each day.

"Barker was equally proficient in watercolour, pen and ink, oils, and pastels. Kate Greenaway and the Pre-Raphaelites were the principal influences on her work. She claimed to paint instinctively and rejected artistic theories. Barker died in 1973. Though she published Flower Fairy books with spring, summer, and autumn themes, it wasn't until 1985 that a winter collection was assembled from her remaining work and published posthumously."  Source: Wikipedia's Article on Cicely Mary Barker

    That yellow is so pretty against the white of the snow! I enjoyed the poem—and what a pretty illustration!

    I've had many a round of golf ruined by gorse bushes that have gathered up my ball, but they look fine from afar.

    I am so happy to be introduced to Cicely Mary Barker and her book "A Flower Fairy Alphabet". It is amazing. My sister who lives in Oregon is an illustrator and I know she will love this.

    I love her books. I did not know much about her.

    I see we share a love of many of the same illustrators. Eloise Wilkins is also one of my favorites and I have many books by her.

    What a great idea, Kathy! And I'm a gardener, so seeing these lovely flowers every day is very uplifting! Gorse, eh? The name leaves a lot to be desired, but the color is spectacular!
