Week in Review: May 27th - June 2nd

Hi!

It is hard to believe that another week has passed us by.  Just last weekend I was with my family doing the pioneer cemeteries.  On Thursday, Cary flew out to Texas for our grand-daughter Halie's graduation ceremony.  He will come back on Tuesday.  All of these storms in the Midwest scare me so much, but I'm sure that he will be fine.  I really miss him though.  We are usually never apart for very long.

I thought that I would show you how our classroom looks now.  I will probably be keeping it this way, except for the pink bulletin boards on either side of the window.  I have some other fabric in mind for those.

At this point in time, my room is full with 5 kids.  It is a nice sized space.  If we get more children enrolled in my 2's/3's class, I would need to have an assistant.  For now, it is just me ... and that keeps me hopping.

Our couch is made from crib mattresses.  The bottom one is apparently irresistible for jumping on, and I am constantly reminding little people to not do that. I just don't want them to get hurt or knock my CD player off the shelf.

I had held on to the vintage yellow linen fabric for 25 years and decided to use it on the bulletin board a couple of weeks ago.  The little panels for the boarder are from some fabric that I bought several months ago.

I went "shopping" in the puzzle cupboard and found the neat ones on top of the shelves for decorative purposes.

This is our art and discovery/science area.  It isn't very aesthetically pleasing, but it is finally functional.

We use our table for everything.  Last week, the kids were finger-painting with tempura paint on wallpaper samples.  When the paintings were dry, all of the paint flaked off!  What a mess, but who would have known?  Oh well, it isn't always about the finished product anyway; sometimes it is really about the process.

I got a new vacuum and I love it!  My old one still works, but not a fraction as well as the new one does.  I'm going to put the old one in our 5th wheel.

I have been doing spring cleaning and organizing, and that is what I plan on doing again today.  There is so much stuff in our house; too much.  Well, I'd better get to work.  It is 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, and I have a lot that I want to get accomplished today.  I'll work until 1:00 or 2:00 and then sit down in the sun with my book, "Duma Key" by Stephen King.  It is pretty good.

That is about it.  Things have settled down and I am back to a regular schedule.  I hope that you all have a wonderful week.  Keep those tornado hit cities in your prayers.

Kathy M.

Oh, I have begun a new tradition.  When I get paid twice a month, I am buying myself a new pair of earrings at Signature Imports in Sunriver.  It is my reward to myself.  Do you guys ever give yourself rewards like that?

  1. Your room looks so fun and inviting, Kathy - just what little people need and love.
As for rewarding myself, I promised myself something when I lost 5 pounds. Still waiting - no reward in sight.....

  2. Your classroom looks gorgeous!
Am I rewarding myself? Yes, all the time! I used to buy lots of books, until my shelves were overloaded. My reward now is taking time to read them!

  5. Your classroom looks lovely--I'm sure the kids enjoy it very much.

Duma Key...in my opinion, one of his best. He's an amazing writer, even though the subject matter is sometimes pretty harrowing!

  6. What a cheerful place for a child to play. The order and organization are also great and help little ones learn there is a place for everything. Looks like you're having fun Kathy , and probably very tired at the end of the day.( Tired with a smile and some new earrings every now and then)

  7. You've created a beautiful, interesting, comfortable place for "your" kids, Kathy. I bet they love you to pieces.

My rewards are usually food related. Peanut butter M&Ms, usually. LOL

  8. Your classroom is full of color, color, color! Fabulous! Lots of things to look at, touch, feel, etc. Is there a little corner nook for the occasional little introvert to occupy?

  9. You've created a welcoming oasis of color for the kids. They probably have so much fun with you, they don't even realize they're learning, too. (You sneaky thing, you.)

Do I treat myself? Ummm, sometimes. A Hershey bar with almonds when I'm very very good. (I try very very hard to be very very good, too! HA!)
