Here are some more pictures that I took at Train Mountain Railroad in Chiloquin, Oregon on the 4th of July weekend. The good folks there had painted this one up on the outside, and made it really pretty.
The inside was a different story.
I don't think that I would have enjoyed living inside a caboose, even for short periods of time. Even for a shift at work. It seems to have everything that one might need (though I didn't notice a bathroom unless that door by the bed is where it is), but dang there are not enough windows and everything is hard and cold.
Plus, the color is the one that they use to induce calm within the walls of mental hospitals. According to studies.
What about you? What was the smallest and or most unique home that you have ever lived in?

Hi Kathy, I have to disagree with you, I would love to get my hands on a caboose and give it a woman's touch :) I think it could be just about the cutest little space even. I do see what you mean, when you talk about the way they had it. Cold hard steel and not much comfort. I guess they expected the men to work and not to get too comfortable. The only thing calming about it was the paint, LOL.

ReplyDeleteI'm with you, Kathy, don't think I could handle that green for very long. Cutest small space---probably our house on Key West. Tiny place with louvered windows and ceiling fans, very tropical. :)
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed cute as a button outside. I've seen some shows on tv where people have revamped a train car to live in. It would be much like a camper, I suppose.

ReplyDeleteLisa, that sounds darling! Mom's cabin was the smallest place that I have lived, 365 sq. ft. I agree, painting would come first in that caboose!

It's cute outside, but it looks stark and cold on the inside. I would probably want to comfy it up if I had to work inside of a caboose for very long!
ReplyDeleteThe inside was indeed a different story! In such a neglected demolition wagon I would not want to stay, even for 5 minutes. At the time it was used, it looked hopefully better.
