Marriage Prayer:

Oregon Gifts of Comfort and Joy ~ Kathy Matthews

"Lord, I pray that you will protect our marriage from anything that would harm or destroy it.  Shield it from our own selfishness and neglect, from the evil plans and desires of others, and from unhealthy or dangerous situations.  May there be no thoughts of divorce or infidelity in our hearts, and none in our future.  Set us free from past hurts, memories, and ties from previous relationships and unrealistic expectations from one another.  I pray that there will be no jealousy in either of us, or the low self-esteem that proceeds that.  Let nothing come into our hearts and habits that would threaten our marriage in any way, especially influences like alcohol, drugs, gambling, pornography, lust or obsessions.

Unite us in a bond of friendship, commitment, generosity, and understanding.  Eliminate our immaturity, hostility, or feeling of inadequacy.  Help us to make time for one another alone, to nurture and renew our marriage and to remind ourselves of the reasons we were married in the first place.  I pray that each of us will be committed to you, Lord, and that our commitment to each other will not waiver, no matter what storms come.  I pray that our love for each other will grow stronger everyday, and that we will never divorce.  Amen."

From Stormie O'Maritan's book, The Power of a Praying Wife

I found this the other day as I was cleaning out the office.  I had typed it out seven years ago, and put it inside a sheet protector.  I keep it under the schedule book.  Just wanted to share it with you, cuz it's a good one!

God bless,

Kathy M.

  2. Don't you just love Stormie? What a blessing her writings have been to my prayer life. Thanks for posting this. I want to copy it for myself and share it with some friends, too. What a change we'd see in our country if all marriages would practice this.

    Blessings,
    Pamela

  3. That should be given to all contemplating marriage to memorise before being allowed to marry.

  5. It kind of includes everything, doesn't it? Stormie has incredible prayers, that is for sure. I have several of her books, but haven't read them in a while. Maybe I should pull them out again.

Thanks for all of your comments, friends.
