Enjoying the Patio:

Oregon Gifts of Comfort and Joy ~ Kathy Matthews

A month ago, I did a post about getting out the lawn furniture, going to Bi-Mart and buying some hanging baskets, and then setting everything up on our front patio.  I have been using this little outdoor room often and am enjoying it a lot.  I usually read my book sitting out there in the afternoons.

In the late afternoon, the front of our house is in the shadows.  That makes for some pretty shadow shots, and you know how I like those!

The flower baskets are flourishing.  They attract bees, butterflies, moths and hummingbirds.  The meat bees (yellow jackets) showed up in full force yesterday for the first time.  I'm going to have to figure out what to do about that now.

I didn't even plant the baskets ... or hung them up.  I just sat them around empty spaces, and they do help to create a bit of privacy from those driving by.  Plus they look and smell great.

Our yard attracts others too.  Deer come to visit frequently.

This one is just leaving.  I hope that he looks both ways!

The bird feeders are a favorite spot to visit.  They are right across the grass from where I sit.

The Blue Jays are the bossiest.  We also have doves and many small birds.  The corn on the cob is for the deer and the squirrels.

The squirrels are so fun to watch.  We have three regular squirrel visitors.  They fight, scold, and chase each other around.

So, if you have been thinking of making yourself a little outdoor space to enjoy, I encourage you to go for it.  It doesn't need to be fancy or cost a lot of money, but it nourishes the soul and gets you back in touch with a bit of nature.  Hopefully, you won't get too many meat bees!

  1. You've made a lovely space to enjoy the outdoors. I love all your wild visitors. I'll have to wait a few months until it's pleasant to be outside again, but I am eagerly looking forward to fall and the cooler temps. Right now, I mostly just admire the outdoors from air conditioned comfort. (I know--I'm a weather weenie...)
