Book Blurb Friday #34 : "Just Around the Bend"

I am participating in Lisa's Book Blurb Friday, from over at Writing in the BuffThank you to our dear friend Becky Povich for this beautiful photo.

It is fun, and you can play too!  Pretend that the picture above is the cover of a book.  On the inside jacket, you have 150 words to entice the reader to buy your book.  Lisa gives us a week to think about next week's entry (she's gracious like that).  Please CLICK HERE  to read what everybody else wrote!

Here is my take on this week's picture:

"Just Around the Bend"

by Kathy Matthews

You are certain to enjoy this delightful story of four sisters born to counter-culture parents during the 1970's.  Meeting up for a week after their parents’ death in June 2010 to settle affairs and clear out the family home, the girls reminisce about living the hippy life and then transforming into themselves.  Follow them throughout their lives, as they hold fast to their parents’ truth, that in this world good lays "just around the bend".

Get to know (and love) each sister:

~ Spring River Johnson, a pretty and temperamental woman; used to getting her own way.

~ Summer Fields Johnson.  A warm and sunny person, Summer is happily married with five kids.

~ Autumn Leaves Johnson, is even-tempered and prone to new beginnings.  Autumn is a college professor at Berkley, divorced with two children.

~ Winter Rain Johnson, with her cool exterior and radiant beauty, is a wealthy divorcee.  (150)

  1. This is great, Kathy. I love the way the hippies named their daughters, and the diverse lives they now live. Good stuff!

  4. Kathy--You created great, hippified names. I love the parents' philosophy coming in on the end, to connect with the photo. Well done!

  5. Nice one, Kathy! The idea of these girls growing up in a hippie environment and then moving on from that to "normal" societal life (I hate to brand it that, because after all, what is "normal?") is compelling, and you've made each one quite different. I imagine their personalities would really stand out in a book. The names are brilliant. :)

  6. Hi Kathy, the names of the four girls with brief character-descriptions are a story in themselves. Still is amazing to think, how the hippy movement started and left a permanent mark on history. Very interesting use of the picture in context, and development of book blurb.
