Mardi Gras Tablescape Revisited:

This morning, I was working on visiting those of you who have left me sweet comments recently.  On my hop over to Kathy Johnson's "Catching Happiness: "Throw Me Something Mister!"",  I was reading her fascinating facts about Mardi Gras, which began today.  In America, Mardi Gras is synonymous with New Orleans, a place that I have only been to once and really want to go to again.

Back when I was doing tablescapes right and left, I made one for Mari Gras.  Here is my version of a Mardi Gras Tablescape, using what I had on hand:

We bought these Jimmy Buffett hats in Las Vegas
a couple of years ago.

I haven't been to Mardi Gras, but I was in New Orleans a decade ago.  That is where I got this little jester magnet.

You probably recognize Emily and the other things.  I don't have a limitless supply, so I reuse things from time to time.

Here is a close up of the other Jimmy Buffett hat and
those one of those peacocks from the thrift store.

Do you like the shadows?
The beauty of shadows is that they add another dimension.

I liked the soft lighting on this shot.

Well, the rest are repeats with different angles and lighting.
I sure hope that you enjoy them!

The quilt and the peacocks were my inspiration pieces for this tablescape.  The lamp was my Grandma T.'s

Oh, the quilt.  My Dad's Grandma J. made it for my Grandma and Grandpa J. for their wedding gift around 75 years ago.  They were all living in Arkansas then.

More beads!

The china is "Sylvia". by Noritake.
The silverware is "Louisiana", by Oneida.

Well that's it for today.  I hope that you enjoyed the photos.  I have a second set that I will post for Shadow Shot Sunday showing this tablescape by candlelight.

  1. I'd sure love to get to a Mardi Gras--or better yet, Carnival in Rio. My hometown had a really fun Mardi Gras when i was growing up (Moscow, Id) but I think it is smaller now than it used to be.

Love your table and fun accessories. I think my favorite pic is the one with the beads really close in the foreground and the table behind it--love the layered look.

  2. It's called 'Carnival' here and of course, with the South American influence there are lots of costumes and parades. I like your tin and the peacock feathers!

  3. Very festive--you need to go back to New Orleans and get yourself one of the beautiful Mardi Gras masks to go with your tablescape!

  4. What an amazing spread. Shades of New Orleans. Love those Buffett hats. I'm a big fan.
