Skiing Mt. Bachelor, April 2012

Oregon Gifts of Comfort and Joy ~ Kathy Matthews

On Thursday, our family came for a visit!

Yesterday, I rode up to Mt. Bachelor with Shanna and and our grandsons.  It is only a 30 minute drive from our house. Shanna skied, and the boys snowboarded.  Chase has been snowboarding for several years, Collin has recently begun, and yesterday was Johnny's first time.

Lookin' good!  The sun was shining

The nice volunteer gives some advice on where to go after Shanna bought the tickets.  Lift tickets are expensive.  For the four of them, it was $245 for the day.  The volunteers are very essential.  This man skied the beginner slope and helped people who were struggling.  The day session ended at 4:00.

The weather was beautiful when we first arrived, and it stayed that way for several hours.  After we ate lunch in the lodge, it began to snow.  The food was very expensive ($14 for a hamburger, fries and a soda). If you can bring your own food, you will probably end up with a better lunch and it will cost much less.  Still, it was nice to have the other option also.

You can rent equipment if you don't have your own.  It costs around $35 per person to rent your stuff at Mt. Bachelor.

There were a lot of people there yesterday, but our group did not feel crowded.  The wait to get on the ski lifts were not long at all.

Over to the left is where the private skiing and snowboarding lessons are held.  The thing with blue on it is a training tunnel to keep you going straight.  They take those orange plastic fences down daily.

Johnny and John wait for the rest of the crew to get down the hill.  John and Cary came up near the end of the day to check things out.  Johnny caught on to snowboarding quickly, with the help of his brothers and really enjoyed himself.
