"We Like Kindergarten" by Clara Cassidy and Elouise Wilkin

It is that time of year again ... time for school to begin!

For some sweet children, this is the big time; the jackpot.  They are finally old enough to enter kindergarten!  In honor of this, I have decided to scan this precious book illustrated by Elouise Wilken and narrated by Clara Cassidy.  It was first published in 1965.  I found this copy at Half-PriceThursdays at St. Vincent de Paul  a couple of days ago for only 14 cents.  My regular readers will be happy to know that these children at least get a nap, unlike the two little troopers in "We Help Daddy".

This is a Sepia Saturday post:

So, there you are, my friends.  If you enjoyed this story, please visit my Sepia Saturday friends by "CLICKING HERE" to find other neat photos and stories.  To read more about my family and other stories featuring old photos, memories and more, please look for this picture of me and my dad on the left-hand sidebar and read whatever else catches your fancy.  Thanks so much for visiting!

  1. We had that book, so this was quite a trip back in time for me! Am also a big fan of Eloise Wilkins. Thanks so much!

  2. Always enjoy a good trip back in time - especially to children's toys and books.

  3. I could not help smiling when I saw your first photograph - it was so bright, colourful and happy. The book struck a chord, as it made me think of our little granddaughter who has just started pre-school nursery. Thank You.

  6. Another one of your treasures. Good old Fisher Price too. We had quite a few of those toys; an aeroplane and a very chunky red cassette player.

  7. Oh the Fisher Price clocks, I never had my own, but my friends did! Then later I was the mom and guess what....off to the store for Fisher Price stuff! Great flash back with the story book, Dick and Jane and their sister Sally and Spot the dog that was my favorite series. What a fun post going back in time of days that were fun and our colors were bright! Your weekend sounds much like ours. We just got back from the lake, and tomorrow is State Fair day!

  8. I met a young boy this week out walking the neighbour's dog (for money so he said). I was interested in the dog but all he wanted to tell me that he was going to go to 'big school' next week as he was too big for kndergarten any more.
We had lots of Fisher toys when our children were small but they were only really interested in their picture books - rather like the one you have shown.

  9. What a treasure! It gives me some ideas of books I could buy for my little granddaughter.

  10. Oh, I am such a fan of Eloise Wilken! Such sweet little faces. I see the price had gone to $.89 by 1965.... When I was little, my mom would buy me a LGB at the grocery when she had enough $ left. They were $.25! Different times....

  11. Yes that definitely looks a more fun day than "we help daddy", even without the nap:-) What an inventive use of the clock prompt, fisher-price looks an enjoyable way to learn the time.
