There are no right words at a time like this, it seems ....

Our hearts and prayers go out to the families and the victims for those in the community of Newtown, Connecticut.  Also for the survivors, first responders and those who are working hard to figure out what happened.  I didn't know what to say or what is helpful.  I decided to gather up some well wishes and some uplifting things that are floating around Facebook to share with you.  I keep adding to it.  When you are done with this post, please, PLEASE read this blog post about mental illness in our kids at "The Antichrist Soccer Mom".

I took the photo below in Ashland, Oregon recently, and it reminds me of the song, "Bridge Over Troubled Water".  We can all pull together to cover our friends with a blanket of love as they process their shock, horror and loss, hoping that they will come to a place of peace eventually.

"When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.' To this day, especially in times of disaster, I remember my mother's words and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers – so many caring people in this world."

If you would like to mail sympathy cards or letters of support and solidarity to the school, the school address appears to be:

 Sandy Hook Elementary School
12 Dickenson Drive
Sandy Hook, CT 06482

In February, I wrote a post about my family and my community's experience with a school shooting.  Here is the link to that post:  School Shootings Revisited: The Thurston High School Shootings.

All I can say, is that you never forget, especially when somebody does it again, and all the memories come back.

Photo: This is one of the hardest posts I could ever think of .. These were the men who had to see those children who were killed early this morning in Newtown, CT .. And had to notify all the parents along with school officials their innocent children were dead .. My thoughts & prayers go out to every person who is effected by one of the worst tragedies in American history .. May God Bless them all ..

Thank you to those who have worked so
hard during this whole ordeal.

When it all filters out, I am pretty sure that we will learn that the parents of the killer did try to get him help.  It is not always easy to find it, as mental health resources seem to be few and far between.

My heart also goes out to the brother and father, who must live with the loss of the rest of their family.  They will always carry shame and despair for what he did.  The poor brother, his name was thrown out there first, and he had nothing to do with it.

Sending out my love.
I don't know what else that I can do.

God bless you, and take care.

~ Kathy M.

  2. Columbine - 9-11 - Virginia Tech -- I was glued to the tv. I can't watch the coverage of this horror. Thanks for posting the many links of support.

  3. It's too horrible to even try to comprehend....

  4. I skipped the news altogether, hearing already too much about it. No matter how many explanations you hear, this remains a senseless crime. But the gun culture prevailing among some only afford opportunities for more crimes like this. How many more need die before proper legislation is voted and enforced?!?

    A most sad affair...
I dare not imagine what those families are going through.
    Unbearable...
