New Fridge!

First, congratulations to Carolyn H. for winning the beautiful necklace ... check out the details here:  Shabby Apple.com Give-a-Way post.

Now, on to the story about the new fridge:

Oregon Gifts of Comfort and Joy ~ Kathy Matthews

We went to bed on Friday night, knowing that we would have to go and buy a new fridge in the morning.  It has been an expensive week, with Sonny's vet bill and needing a new fridge.  When it rains it pours, it seems, right at Christmas and our trip to Texas.  Anyway, this is what our house usually looks like, but as you will see, it got torn apart for the new arrival.

We went to Gary and Sandy's Appliance in La Pine, where we have bought our washer, dryer and dishwasher.  They are great, and I recommend them wholeheartedly.

I had a black fridge in mind, since I had chosen black for the dishwasher last year.  We walked into the store and I headed straight to the one that I wanted.  I said, this is it!  Sandy said, sorry, you can't have that one, it is too big.  Dang.  She said, you can have this white one though.  Cary said, is this the one that you want?  Yes, I wish it were black, but yes, I love it!  (I thank him for being so generous and getting me the one that I wanted, because it did cost more than a standard fridge).  So, we paid for it and rushed home to get the old fridge ready to take outside and clear a path for the new one.

We put the stuff that was in the freezer portion of the old fridge into coolers with blocks of ice.  The food was mostly leftovers, and we gave it to the people who do our security at work ... what they aren't going to eat, they will feed to their dogs.  Those are going to be some happy doggies.

When Gary arrived with the new fridge, he had to take off the front door of our house.  The old fridge went through easily.  Dang, I need to clean that fake plant!  Do you know an easy trick for doing that?  Take it outside and spray it with Windex.  Saturate it and let it dry and, wah-la, you are done.  I learned that when I was cleaning houses in Sunriver, by the way.

You should have seen how dusty it was underneath our old fridge.  We probably burned out the motor because of that fact alone.  We had the motor replaced a couple of years ago, and it was 11 years old and the plastic inside was breaking, so it was still time for a new one.  I promise not to let that happen to the new fridge.  The new fridge is a Maytag.  I was very surprised that it only has a one year warranty though.

We got to work tearing apart the living room/dining room and kitchen to make a pathway for Gary to be able to maneuver the fridges in and out.  We worked hard and fast.

He had to remove the doors of the new fridge before bringing it inside.  Gary really worked hard for his small delivery fee that day.

Here it is, without the doors on.  Cool!

We are loving it!  It had to sit for 24 hours before we could put food into it.  We hardly had any food to put back in, thank goodness.  I am so happy that this had not happened right after a major grocery shopping spree.

I have never been so excited over an appliance purchase before.

We took some uncooked stuff out of our other small freezer, filled up this one, and are now ready to go.  We even have room for ice cream bars, and the ice maker works great.  Life is good.
