Cascade Lakes Highway: Elk Lake Resort and Campground

Cascade Lakes Highway:

On Friday, I went on a drive down South Century Drive and Cascade Lakes Highway.  I started out at Highway 97 and Burgess, at an intersection known as Wickiup Junction.  I stopped at many lakes, resorts and campgrounds along the back way to Mt. Bachelor, and then followed the signs to Sunriver on my way home.  It was such a beautiful and peaceful day, with not much traffic.  You will be seeing many posts of that little drive throughout the week.

One of my stops was Elk Lake, and these are the pictures that I took there, mainly from the parking lot.  This is a photo of the South Sister as you turn to go into the resort:

Elk Lake was named by J. Roy Harvey,
first supervisor of The Deschutes National Forest.
It covers approximately 390 acres.
It's maximum depth is 75 feet.
The lake has no surface outlet.

Elk Lake Resort is very welcoming and inviting.  I did not stay and explore that day, but was here several years ago with Cary.  It is a popular destination spot for the Bend, Sunriver and La Pine locals.

There is a store, restaurant, bar, marina and cabins.

They provide live music on the
weekend during the summer and fall.

They are open during the winter too, when snowmobiling is the fun thing to be doing.

The marina was beautiful!  The water is so clear and the boats, kayaks and canoes were pretty on their own. No water skiing is allowed on this lake.

There are several campgrounds around Elk Lake.  This one is right next to the resort, and is operated by Hoodoo.  You just walk next across the parking lot to get to the resort, but it has its own day use area and boat ramp.  Plus many campsites, of course.  To find out more about Elk Lake Campground, please "Hoodoo.com: Elk Lake Campground".   To learn specific info about Elk Lake itself, please go to VisitUSA's page by "CLICKING HERE".

SHADOW BOLD

Shadow bold and shadow bright,
Shadow with me day and night,
Shadow taller than a tree,
Tell me what you think of me!

That marina caught my eye. I do love to kayak and that looks like a neat place.
It was so hot this summer that "old yellow" never got in the water.
