Book Blurb #36 : "School Schedule"

School Schedule
by Kathy Matthews

Katie Erickson always seemed to be on school schedule.  She couldn't believe that she was returning to school again, at the age of 40.  It seemed to be a pattern in her life.  Get divorced, go back to school.  Last time she went to Business College.  This time she was working on her bachelors to become a teacher.  One observant friend told her that if she got remarried and divorced a couple of more times, she would end up with a Ph.D. before she died.  Whatever.

Glancing around at the fall day, Katie was reminded of that old show called "Up The Down Staircase".  Would being a student/single mom be a struggle?  She wasn't concerned.  The past twelve years of marriage had been the real struggle.

It was uplifting to be doing something good for herself, to invest in her future.  Katie was now leaving the past far behind her. (150)

I am participating in Lisa's Book Blurb Friday, from over at Writing in the BuffThank you to Lisa's daughter Christina for this pretty photo.

It is fun, and you can play too!  Pretend that the picture above is the cover of a book.  On the inside jacket, you have 150 words to entice the reader to buy your book.  Lisa gives us a week to think about next week's entry (she's gracious like that).  Please CLICK HERE  to read what everybody else wrote!

Good for her! Leaving the past behind can be difficult. Going back to school sounds like a good way to do it, and I'd be interested in reading about it.

You've created an interesting character, one who takes charge and doesn't wallow. That means her story will be fun to read. So. . .I'm in!

I love what you've written. True story - I got a divorce and then started my masters program - just like your character. Ten years later and still happily married, I went back to school for a middle school endorsement. I would love to get my Ph.D but I can't afford it.

Great blurb Kathy! I love how she gets smarter after each divorce, gosh if I would've been as smart, I would have a PhD (since I have the divorces to go with it!). Hope my brain can whip up something for your photo next week as it is a beautiful shot.

I enjoyed the way in which you incorporated both the stairs and the season into your blurb.

I know some really smart ladies who got that way thanks to divorce. Now why didn't I think of that? I would want to read that to find out "how."

Good for Katie, and good for you for writing such an inspiring blurb!

Hi Kathy, you have written of a very practical and strong woman. In the subtle humor and short story, there is quite a lesson.

The 2012 Army All-American Day Event

Photo Source: Nike "The Opening Brochure" Pages 2 and 3
During the week of July 5-9, 2011, Cary and I were privileged to attend "The Opening", watching quarterback grandson Tyler Matthews (#43 the first day, and #15 on game days) play with 150 of the best high school football players in the United States. The event was held at Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. I hope that you enjoy the pictures ... some are better photos than others, but I tried to capture as many kids as I could.

There are approximately 500 photos in these slide shows. They are of the players, the fans, our family and everybody/everything that caught my eye. They are in chronological order. No names are on the pictures, even if I do know who people were.

As time permits, I will also be writing blog posts about my experience as a spectator. Since I still have a lot to learn about football and this is not a sports blog, I'll write some human interest stories as seen through my eyes. That said, Tyler Matthews, YOU ROCK!!!!
