BBF #33 ~ The Flintsones: Retiring in Style

Today's prompt for Lisa Ricard Claro's Book Blurb Friday reminded me of our favorite prehistoric family, The Flintstones.  If you are around my age, you probably looked forward to watching them on t.v. in the 1960's like I did.

Thank you to our friend Lynn Obermoeller from over at "Present Letters",  Lynn, What’s for Dinner? and Lynn, What’s for Dessert?  for this cool picture:

"The Flintstones: Retiring in Style"

by Kathy Matthews

"After working hard for 35 years at the rock quarry, Fred Flintstone had finally reached the age of retirement.  Hanging up his hard hat and putting down his lunch pail on his last day; he never looked back.  Now was the time to do all those things that he and Wilma had been dreaming of.

Pebbles was grown and married, Dino and the cat were long gone.  Fred and Wilma had given up their beloved home in the suburbs, and downsized to a retirement condo in the hills.

They couldn't beat the view, there was no lawn to water or mow and it was brand-spanking new.  Plus, upon purchase, they had received an incentive lightweight sporty vehicle, the much coveted "Rockis".  It was so much easier to drive up that hill than their old dinosaur of a car.

You will love this entertaining story of The Flintstones happy golden years." (150)

I am participating in Lisa's Book Blurb Friday, from over at Writing in the Buff.   It is fun, and you can play too!  Pretend that the picture above is the cover of a book.  On the inside jacket, you have 150 words to entice the reader to buy your book.  Lisa gives us a week to think about next week's entry (she's gracious like that).  Please CLICK HERE  to read what everybody else wrote!

Lets bring the Flintstones back as retirees. Great idea. Would like to see that actually done.
There is a huge audience for that.

The 2012 Army All-American Day Event

Photo Source: Nike "The Opening Brochure" Pages 2 and 3
During the week of July 5-9, 2011, Cary and I were privileged to attend "The Opening", watching quarterback grandson Tyler Matthews (#43 the first day, and #15 on game days) play with 150 of the best high school football players in the United States. The event was held at Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. I hope that you enjoy the pictures ... some are better photos than others, but I tried to capture as many kids as I could.

There are approximately 500 photos in these slide shows. They are of the players, the fans, our family and everybody/everything that caught my eye. They are in chronological order. No names are on the pictures, even if I do know who people were.

As time permits, I will also be writing blog posts about my experience as a spectator. Since I still have a lot to learn about football and this is not a sports blog, I'll write some human interest stories as seen through my eyes. That said, Tyler Matthews, YOU ROCK!!!!
