I Dream of Eugene: 5th Street Market in Eugene, Oregon

I grew up in Eugene.  I loved growing up in Eugene.  And, I love going back to visit.  I think that I'll start a new series about it called "I Dream of Eugene".  This is the very first installment; thanks so much for joining me.

On our most recent visit, we stopped by the 5th Street Market.  Of course, I had to take a bunch of pictures, because everything was so pretty.

5th Street Market has been around since1976, when local vendors rented space for $2.00 per day to sell their wares.  It has since grown into a beautiful and unique courtyard shopping center, filled with art, shops and great food.

Cary was the king of the food court on Saturday.

We ordered breakfast from the El Pato Cafe, along with good coffees.  The market hosts 5 cafes and two restaurants.

There are 15 specialty stores, ranging from imports and sewing notions to an area old-time favorite florist, Rhythm and Blooms:

We will be back another day, and maybe sometime we will be able to stay at the brand-new boutique hotel recently built in part of the parking lot.  The hotel and market are all within walking distance to Autzen Stadium, the Home of the Ducks, if you are in relatively good shape.  To learn more about the hotel, here is a link to their website: Inn at the 5th

Hope that you enjoyed the tour.  Happy New Year to all of you!

Wow! What a gorgeous market place. I wish we had something like this around here. These are some really gorgeous photos. I just got a digital camera for Christmas so hopefully I will figure it out soon so I can start sharing some pics of my own. :)

What a beautiful area! If you hadn't told us it was in Oregon, I would guess it was somewhere in The South...like New Orleans, etc. You grew up in a lovely place!
