PIctures of Pole Creek Fire From La Pine:

Last Sunday, Cary and I were at Taco Bell in La Pine and heard on the radio that there was a fast moving wildfire in the Three Sisters Wilderness Area.  In the picture above, this is what it looked like from HWY 97 and Paulina Lake Road.  At this point, it had only been reported two hours earlier.

We were headed up for an afternoon of fishing at Paulina Lake, so we took the opportunity to take some pictures at the Newberry Crater Viewpoint.

A minivan ahead of us turned in to the parking lot at the same time.  As I got to visiting with the woman who got out, I learned that her name is Alice.  Alice turned out to be the woman in La Pine who calls in the weather and temperatures to the Z21 News channel.  Thanks, Alice!

As of yesterday, the fire had burned around 4300 acres, but has slowed down, thank goodness.

It was a beautiful day.  I also took some pictures of the Cascade Mountain Range.

So scary! My daughter and I went past a fire in Montana that we worried we might have to go THROUGH because of the angle of the freeway, but the road turned before we got there.

I hope it's under control now! It's been a bad year for fires.

Hi Kathy, When you think how wonderful it would be to have a cabin in the mountains, you're not thinking of forest fires, are you? Steve and I drove to Wenatchee today for a doctors appointment. As we came down into the valley about 15 miles from town the smoke became so thick that even driving beside the river we couldn't see across it. I really felt sorry for all the folks breathing that air each day.

Well, I wish that I had met you before my daughter moved from Bend; we could have met and had lunch. Thank you for the lovely compliment that you left on my blog. You are the sweetest of the sweet.
Your blogging sister, Connie :)
