New Beginnings:

Yesterday was my last day of work.  I have been teaching preschool at a child care center for the past 18 months.  There were some rewarding times, and I enjoyed the children and families that I worked with, but I am so glad to be done with that job.  I almost quit last year at this time, but held on for better or for worse.

I worked hard for low wages, and I never received a raise.  It was a very stressful and often frustrating situation.  For the first nine months or so, I was exhausted when I came home from work, and I was always getting sick (that is normal for the first year back teaching).  I got my feet back on the ground, and my teaching skills improved, but other parts of my life went to the wayside.

I set up at Facebook page for the center, and took over posting for their website on the weekends.  I put my blog on hold. and concentrated on my Facebook friends and family because, lets face it, Facebook is a lot easier.  I had to make a trade, because I couldn't do it all.

For the record, here are a few pictures of my room.  I did enjoy decorating that joint:

I enjoyed the pats on the back and the appreciation of the parents, but it stung when the "boss" left early yesterday without saying goodbye, giving me a card or saying thank you.

Oh, well.  That is life sometimes.  I am just happy to be gone.

The good news is that I will have more time to spend doing fun things with Cary now, and I plan on returning to the blogging world.  You can do that from a 5th wheel!  I anticipate my stress level decreasing, and look forward to writing and working on our family histories.

So, that is a bit of an update of where things are for now.

Oh, I have noticed that some of my blogging friends have slowed down on their blogs, but I will still be making the rounds to say hello.  Maybe I will even be able to meet some of you guys in person this year.  That would be fun, wouldn't it?

Hugs,

Kathy M.

Hi Kathy, welcome back to blog-land. . . You were certainly missed. I taught preschool for ten years (I was much younger then) it takes everything you have, so I can imagine how exhausted you were. It's one of those jobs that you can not help but take home with you. I hope that you and your hubby take some time to relax together, breath deep and start taking care of each other, instead of everyone else's families. I'm looking forward to reading your blog again.
Have a sweet and happy weekend.
Your blogging sister, Connie :)

I can't imagine being a preschool teacher, Kathy--and I greatly admire those who have the teaching gift. Your room really looked great! I'm sure the kids will really miss you. I'm glad you'll be back with us blogging, and I second Connie's suggestion of putting up your feet and taking a good rest. Enjoy your time with Cary and your four-legged family members, and I look forward to seeing what you're up to.

My buddy, Kathy! WOW, your room looked great. I'm sorry that the director didn't appreciate your efforts and that no big deal was made for you when you left. Trust me, now that you are gone, she will see what she is missing, with not having you, and she will KICK herself! Well, the most important thing is that you were a good care-taker and role model for the kids. You have a loving and generous heart, and what you gave to those kids will last a life-time with them. You will have good karma coming back to you with all of the goodness you have extended of yourself to the children. AND: Good for you and Cary to start up some trouble and trips in the the 5th wheel! LOL! Hey, YOU'D BETTER be taking some FOOD pictures for Old Gloria when you go on the road!! ;)
Love to you and Cary, Kathy!

I'm sorry the preschool job didn't work out for you, Kathy. I remember how excited you were when you started. Your room always looked so inviting and colorful. Enjoy your free time now!

I hear so much talk about how important preschool is and yet we think we can get by with paying less than babysitting wages.

Your room looks amazing! How much of your own money went into creating that lovely environment?

Enjoy your freedom!

Good luck with your new beginning. Now we can benefit from your creativeness on your blog!

I too have seen many blogs go "quiet" - I follow over 100 of them. Not sure why that is ~

I remember how hard you worked arranging and rearranging your classroom. You were a wonderful addition to the school, I'm sure, and you enriched the lives of those children, so hang on to that. I bet you'll have fun blogging from the 5th wheel too.

I have no doubt at all that you were there for a reason, touching those little lives with your positive and loving nature. A chapter opened and closed, m'dear, and a new exciting one beginning. Enjoy your travels with Cary!

It sounds to me like you make the right decision. When the stress of a job outweighs the warm fuzzies by that much, it has to go. Life's too short. Even if your boss didn't say it, I will. You made a huge difference to those little ones you taught. It's clear you put a lot of yourself into the room, the children, and the job. Their loss! (And our gain... you're back in the blogosphere!)

Thanks for your comments, everybody. It has been several weeks now, and I know that I did make the right decision.

I am so much more happier and balanced; am enjoying being home and taking care of us. I have cleaned, organized, caught up on laundry, grocery shopping and have been cooking nice dinners.

Next on the list is writing, sewing and crafting. Oh, and making a visit to the coast soon.

Hugs,

Kathy M.
