The Silver Lining ....

Last Thursday, tragedy struck our family as our grandson's father and my former son-in-law, made the choice to leave our world much too early.  We rallied around, and his brother and sister-in-law arrived at my daughter's home, along with his grandma.  Though we were all sad and bewildered, many decisions needed to be made and many tasks were accomplished over a very short period of time.

The silver lining is that we were able to spend quality time with some amazing people.  I took these photos on the morning that we left to come back home.  The only people missing in our little group of pictures were my first husband, Rick and my mom, Grandma Jody.

I am so sorry for this loss. I understand how families treasure time together, even when sadness is what has brought them together.

I am so very sorry for your loss....last month we had two funerals in one week. It is never easy.

I pray the Lord will give you strength during this time.

I am so sorry for your loss and in such a manner. It is hard to understand.
Family time is precious regardless of the reason.

Sorry to hear of your loss Kathy, but glad to hear that everyone rallied round and you achieved much together.

One of my close friends recently lost her husband to the same situaion. While everyone is still so sad and bewildered, the memorial service was such a beautiful experience, and the love expressed to my friend and her family I hope will comfort and encourage her during the hard days still to come. I hope the same for you and your family--that you will draw closer and treasure each other more.

Oh, Kathy... I am so sorry for the loss of your former son-in-law. I hope your grandson is ok. I'm sure everyone was devastated. I will be sure to say a prayer tonight for your grandson and the whole family, that they come to terms and find peace of mind.
Best,
Gloria

The 2012 Army All-American Day Event

Photo Source: Nike "The Opening Brochure" Pages 2 and 3
During the week of July 5-9, 2011, Cary and I were privileged to attend "The Opening", watching quarterback grandson Tyler Matthews (#43 the first day, and #15 on game days) play with 150 of the best high school football players in the United States. The event was held at Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. I hope that you enjoy the pictures ... some are better photos than others, but I tried to capture as many kids as I could.

There are approximately 500 photos in these slide shows. They are of the players, the fans, our family and everybody/everything that caught my eye. They are in chronological order. No names are on the pictures, even if I do know who people were.

As time permits, I will also be writing blog posts about my experience as a spectator. Since I still have a lot to learn about football and this is not a sports blog, I'll write some human interest stories as seen through my eyes. That said, Tyler Matthews, YOU ROCK!!!!
