Vintage 1940's Studio Promotional Photos and Bio's for: Alice Faye, Cary Grant and Linda Darnell

Well, now.  This is two weeks in a row where I had things to post for Sepia Saturday, but was waiting for the right theme to come around.  And, sure enough, they did!

Among my Great Uncle John's things were these 1940's movie star promotional photos and biographies that the Richfield Service Station in Drain, Oregon must have handed out with a fill-up.

In order to slip some Sepia into this post, I went online and tried to find a picture of each star in wedding garb.  A wedding photo of Cary Grant wasn't hard to find, but Alice Faye and Linda Darnell were not quite so easy.  Instead, I just went with pictures of them in dresses.  I hope that you will enjoy this post as much as I have.

I like the colors on Alice Faye's picture. I must admit, I never heard of her before.

These are real collector's items I'm sure Kathy. Alice Faye was one of my Dad's favourites and she was very popular in England I think.

I just love classic movies, so thanks for this post!

Your Great Uncle John had such an interesting collection of items. It was interesting to learn about Alice & Linda, two actresses I'm not familiar with. Cary Grant is one of my all-time favorite actors and I always enjoy reading about him!

Unfortunately fueling stations just issue stamps these days and that is a pity :(

Famous movie stars, I only recognized Cary Grant; it sounds so much better then Archie Leach! Enjoyable and interesting.

The women on the photo with Cary Grant look as though they could kill you with a stare at 50 paces. I always like old movie stars promotional photos. I laughed at the Linda Darnell description of "histrionics always appealed to her", how words change, today that would mean something over the top.

I am a Cary Grant fan, always have been always will. He just had the best voice ever too! Alice Faye what a treat to learn about her, she is quite lovely, but I don't recall ever seeing her, all though I must have! What a nice (GREAT) collection of some old time favorites, very nicely done! Such a treat too!

Alice Faye was new to me but I knew of all the rest. Cary Grant was jus an English smoothie!

Linda Darnell is one you don't hear that much about, but isn't she beautiful!?!

I love old pictures like these. I hadn't heard of gas stations giving out pictures like these. They are great! Too bad Cary is the only one smiling in his wedding picture!

Great post. Cary Grant is my all time favorite. He should have never married Barbara Hutton. What a mistake! I think he did it for the money and connections.

Real ephemera! It's hard to believe that oil companies once felt the need to promote their gasoline with Hollywood starlets.

Watching movies has never been a hobby to me. Perhaps it should be. Well, lots of things to do.

It's strange that whenever I think of Alice Faye I think of her as an old woman. Not sure why, but it's nice to see her as a young woman.

The cards are wonderful, the text on the reverse is like an exercise in public relations. With Alice Faye we are told she is a wonderful person/singer/actress/friend/human being and the paragraph ends - "and her hobby is collecting phonograph records". Wonderful.
