Moving the Cows:

On our way to Reno a few weeks ago, we were in ranch country between Lakeview, Oregon and Alturas, California.  We came upon this scene:

Some of these pictures were taken through a dirty windshield, but they still help to capture the moment.  There were several cowboys and cowgirls on horses, three or four remarkable dogs, cows of all ages, and a cop car.

I got out for a little bit to shoot some clearer photos.  Those cows were just milling around.  I think that the purpose of this event was to move the cows from one pasture to another.  Cows are pretty dumb though, and it was taking a long time.  The babies kept good track of their mamas, however.

I don't know what this guy did that was so bad he had to get thrown into jail.

I really like this picture.  The dogs were getting thirsty, they seemed to be the ones working the hardest.  You could tell that they lived for days such as these though.

Twins:

This baby was on the wrong side of the fence, and the dog had to go and get it:

The countryside was beautiful.  It only went downhill after we were past Alturas, becoming hours of boring sagebrush.

After awhile, the cop motioned for us to go through the cattle-jam.  Cary drove slowly; the cows don't seem to know much about cars.

As we drove on, I hollered out to the cowboy as we passed by, "Good dogs!"  He smiled and waved.

Miles down the road, I spotted this tipped over box car:

And, that is that.

Hope that you are all having a wonderful day!
