Here is a picture of me yesterday, in my comfort and joy nest. If you remember, two weeks ago we got the carpets cleaned, and I moved around the furniture in our living room/dining room. This remix is the best one that I have ever done, I think. I am still very pleased every time I look at it.

This is how my nest looks without me in it. For the first week after we moved the furniture, I had a sore shoulder and neck. I thought that I had hurt myself as I was moving things around. (Cary and the carpet cleaner guys helped me with the big stuff, but I worked on the rest of it myself.) Finally, it dawned on me that my neck was hurting because of the angle of how I was now looking at the t.v.
The solution was to prop myself up in a different manner. So now, the nest really does look like a grandma's spot. You can see my pillow, my corn bag, my remote control, my book, and my flyswatter.

I had made a bunch of these hot/cold corn bags last year and gave many away as Christmas gifts. Dang, these things turned out to be really neat. I put it in the microwave for 3 or 4 minutes and put it on the back of my neck. After the first evening, my muscles relaxed, my neck popped, and I feel much better now. Cary was really cold the other day and I let him use it, and he enjoyed it too. The heat lasts a long time. To see the post on how to make these, please "CLICK HERE ".

I'll get to the fly swatter in a minute. I just wanted to let you know about our separate remote controls first. It used to be that Cary always kept the remote by him. It is a guy thing. He likes to use "the flicker" as much as possible; switching between shows when the commercials come on or when he wants to check on a game for a second. There I would be, settled in my nest, and he would get up and do something else, forgetting to hand me the flicker. For years, I had to get up and retrieve it, if only to turn down the volume when a commercial came on. This always disturbed my peace, as I would then need to re-situate myself.
One day, I got one of my brightest thoughts ever, and went into the bedroom and got the remote from there. Yay! Now we each have one, even though we are sitting only four feet apart from each other. Happiness is having your very own flicker, don't ya think?

For the past couple of weeks, we have had a huge fly problem. These pesky guys hang out on the front door screen, and around the entry area. Every time we open up the screen door, at least a few flies sneak into the house. I don't know where they came from or why they are there. The meat bees are mostly gone now, since it has been getting cold at night. Thank goodness for that. The flies are also beginning to die off, but they are still irritating. The fly swatter has been my best friend lately. You will notice evidence of death below the fly on the door frame, where I killed his uncle.
Yesterday I went to Bi-Mart, and among other things, I bought some fly catchers.

I think that I got ripped off on this one. It cost $7.97 for this clever fly trap, with one packet of non-toxic fly attractant included. I also bought a box of extra packets, which cost $5.88 and ended up having only 3 more packets inside. As of this morning, not one fly has been trapped, even though I have placed this high-priced contraption in the kitchen, in the living room, and outside the front door. I should have bought fly strips instead.

I also bought this trap for $2.99. It came with no attractant. You just fill it up with water and the flies are supposed to go in and drown, as with the trap above. I figured that since the flies can drink the cat's water on the front porch, that I should add one of those high priced packets of attractant into this trap. As of this morning, there was not one fly inside.

Now, this four-year-old $.99 fly swatter does work. Of course you have to stand there and not miss, but it is effective and cheap. Even though it involves hard labor and tenacity, I still count it as my most effective choice for killing the flies.
Today I have to go back to Bi-Mart because I forgot to buy coffee. I think that I'll pick up a cheap fly strip and hang it outside the front door. Ugly but effective.
So, there you go! Now that I am done, I feel like this is a Seinfeld episode sort of a post: a half an hour about not much. Thanks for hanging in there to the end, you guys. What is your favorite way to rid your home of flies?
