SkyWatch Friday: Blue Skies over Paulina Peak, Mt. Bachelor and His Sisters

On Tuesday this week, the sky was finally blue!  I was driving along Hwy 97 north of La Pine, and pulled over on the shoulder of the road to take these beautiful pictures:

These two are of Paulina Peak, which is a mere 13 mile drive away.

These are Mt. Bachelor, The Three Sisters (South, Middle and North) and Broken Top.  Mt. Bachelor is around 35 miles away:

Watery Wednesday and April's A - Z Challenge: The Letter "W" is for The Witte Museum in San Antonio, Texas

Today we have another double header, this time it is for the Letter "W"!  First I will tie this post into Watery Wednesday, a weekly meme where folks worldwide show off their watery photos.  The second part of this post features the Witte Museum in San Antonio, Texas.  I hope that you enjoy each part equally.

I took these on the way home from the store on Saturday.  It was our only nice day during the past couple of weeks.  We woke up to snow this morning!

The Letter "W" is for The Witte Museum

January 2010:

As we were leaving the Riverwalk in San Antonio, we checked out of our hotel and wondered what to do for the next several hours before needing to go to the airport.  We had standing there on the sidewalk with our suitcases on wheels, when a cab pulled over.  The driver was a great guy named Francis.  Big and boisterous,  originally from Nigeria, he decided that we should visit the Witt Museum, and he promised to come back and get us when we were done. So, that is what we did.  It was a great pick!

While we were there, we met a nice guy that worked there.  He and Cary started visiting.  The man had gone to college in Ashland, Oregon, and was a retired teacher.  A very nice guy, and it just shows you what a small world it really is.   I walked around and took a few photos; not as many as I usually do because it was the last day of our trip and I was running out of camera room.  There is a slide show at the end of this post, but I'll post a few others here first.

"Mother and Child" was made from stone by Charles Umlauf in 1962 and sits near the entrance of the Witte Museum.

The statue above is called "A Monument to Trail Drivers" and was made around 1925 by famous artist/sculpture John Gutzon De La Mothe Borglum.  It is located next door to the Witte Museum.

There is a pretty river that runs behind the Witte Museum, and that is it above.  To go to their website, please CLICK HERE when you are all done with this post.  Here is a link to another website that tells you more about the museum: Texas Beautiful.com

Anyway, we called Francis back to take us to the airport when it was time to go.  He told us about his son, Ben, who plays basketball for the University of Tulsa, and is being recruited by the pro's.  I looked him up, and sure enough, here is the website link to Ben Uzoh's profile:  The Tulsa Hurricanes.

That was then, and this is now.  Ben Uzoh's current status is that he was drafted into the NBA, and is now playing for The New Jersey Nets.  Please check out his official NBA page by CLICKING HERE.

Ben Uzoh.  Hey, Ben, we really liked your Dad!

So, here is the promised slide show of our time at the Witte Museum, in San Antonio, Texas.  I hope that you enjoyed this short tour.  Come back again soon to see what's up!

Today is the seventeenth day of the A - Z Challenge, which is hosted by  Arlee Bird's: Tossing It Out.   Several of my blogging friends are participating, and this year there are over 1,200 participants. We post everyday, except for Sundays, and work our way through the alphabet. I am posting past photos that I have taken, and am linking them up to the posts where the photos originated from too. November Clouds:

Almost everyday I am so thankful to live here, in La Pine on the high desert of Oregon.  Days like today especially.  The clouds are so beautiful.  They are so close to the ground, it seems.  I took these on my way to the store:
