Room Redo #1 of 2 - The Mom Cave Closet: One Thing Leads to Another ....

Last year, I got my Mom Cave the way I wanted it.  That all came about because I wanted to reorganize the closet and put my finished products in there.   So, when I needed a handy little gift that I had made, well, ti-da there it would be.  This is how it looked when I was done then (we don't have snow anymore, finally!)

A nice little room, with a hide-a-bed couch, an older TV with a VCR built into it (something I actually know how to use), toys, books and kids art supplies.

BEFORE

Time went by, and I blogged instead of cleaned.  I also kept stuff that would come in handy someday.  I am convinced that is the pathway to hoarding, along with a huge loss.  I don't have that last excuse, thank goodness.  Though my mom does say that teachers have a tendency to keep things that will come in handy for arts and crafts projects, and I am an early childhood education teacher at heart.  So, I'll gladly accept that label over the hoarding one.  Thanks Mom, I can always count on you for support.  :>)

So, anyway, I wanted to move all of the sewing stuff out of our home office and put it into the Mom Cave closet.  And, I wanted to use that desk in the Mom Cave as a sewing station.

TWO DAYS AGO

NOW.  Yay for me!

To do all that I wanted to do, I had to empty the closet.  I was really doing two rooms at once, so I had a disaster on my hands for quite awhile and darn near did myself in.  I am good at organizing and consider myself The Queen of Small Spaces, but still.

THE CLOSET BEFORE

This is after I emptied the closet.  Oh my gosh, what a nightmare:

Notice my shelving unit below?  I took all that from the greenhouse that I bought at Bi-Mart, but never set up.  Now I have a brand-new "greenhouse/tent/cover thingie" that I can't use until I make a frame out of 3/4" PVC pipe.  Good thing that I know where to get that stuff for cheap.

I added on some more shelves, using empty oatmeal containers that I saved because they were good.  That teacher part in me, I guess.  I also used the glass candle containers (I melted the wax out to save for later) and washed and saved them.  I'm trying to be a good recycler.  The key is to not let it get the best of you.

Art supplies, card making supplies and sewing supplies.  Yay!

These old suitcases are full of fabric and other projects. 

Here is what the Mom Cave looks like now.  It is still super-full, but I love it.  It makes me happy to go in there.  And now, if my sister-in-law and I do start making dolls and other things, everything is all in one spot.  The finished products will be going out into the vintage trailer for storage and sales soon.  At the end of this post, I copied and pasted a bit about that from a post I did last month.

Oregon Gifts of Comfort and Joy ~ Kathy Matthews

Okay, you guys, I am so stoked!  Last year we bought this little vintage Shasta travel trailer from our neighbors.  It had been in their family since it was new in 1967, and is in really good shape.  We had it down at work as a security trailer, but just brought it home on Thursday.  I am going to clean the inside, repaint the trim on the outside and make slipcovers with some vintage fabric that I have.  Then, I'll start stocking it with my handcrafted gifts.  I'm so excited, because there will be so much more room in our home!

Do you love those vintage curtains as much as I do?

It is going to be my own little store.  I've always wanted one, ever since I was little and my Grandma T. had hers.  There are plans in the works for holding several small craft fairs this summer with my local crafter friends.  I think that we can also hold special teas there too.  The possibilities are endless, if you ask me.  Thanks to my Cary for once again supporting my dreams.  I sure do love that man.
