It Was a Happy Birthday!

Oregon Gifts of Comfort and Joy ~ Kathy Matthews

It is true, yesterday was my birthday, and it was a very nice one.  I received many phone calls and texts, tons of Facebook messages, several emails, a snail mail card from the bank and a special virtual card from Gloria.  There sure are so many ways to communicate these days.  Thank you, everybody!  I know that I am very blessed to be loved or liked by so many.

I had a good bone-in ham that I had bought on Friday, and decided to make us a good dinner.  My BFF April, her daughter Tatum, my MIL Darlene, and Aunt Nona joined Cary and me for dinner.  We had the ham, slow cooked green beans, shrimp salad, mashed potatoes, squash, beets and bread and butter.  April brought a strawberry cheesecake from Costco, and you know how yummy those are!

I can't believe that I forgot to take pictures of the food and of my guests!  Cary gave me roses, and I received some other beautiful gifts.  I just decided to put together the party yesterday morning, and I am so glad that they were able to come and celebrate with me on short notice.  I could have gone out to dinner, but I wanted to be a blessing and do something nice for them.  We eat out way more than we have others over for a home cooked meal these days.

In the spirit of giving back on my birthday, if you like the photo above, you can copy and paste it for your own personal use.  (You cannot use it to sell though.)

God bless, and thanks for stopping by to see me today.

Gosh darn, golly gee...*&#$*!
I am SO sorry I missed your birthday, Kathy! I've been very bad at blog reading and commenting for quite some time now, as I'm sure you've noticed! I honestly think I'm going to post a statement on my blog that I will no longer leave comments anywhere...for a while anyway...and that I certainly don't expect others to leave comments for me, if I can't!! HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY TO A GREAT GAL!! xoxo

Love that rose display. Just beautiful. Your guy has excellent taste in arrangements but we knew that since he picked you.

The 2012 Army All-American Day Event

Photo Source: Nike "The Opening Brochure" Pages 2 and 3
During the week of July 5-9, 2011, Cary and I were privileged to attend "The Opening", watching quarterback grandson Tyler Matthews (#43 the first day, and #15 on game days) play with 150 of the best high school football players in the United States. The event was held at Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. I hope that you enjoy the pictures ... some are better photos than others, but I tried to capture as many kids as I could.

There are approximately 500 photos in these slide shows. They are of the players, the fans, our family and everybody/everything that caught my eye. They are in chronological order. No names are on the pictures, even if I do know who people were.

As time permits, I will also be writing blog posts about my experience as a spectator. Since I still have a lot to learn about football and this is not a sports blog, I'll write some human interest stories as seen through my eyes. That said, Tyler Matthews, YOU ROCK!!!!
