Did You Know ...

Newest Update:  Slide/Google replied to my email today, and it sounds as if they won't erase anything (I hope that is what this is saying), but will not accept any new slide shows or fix any bugs:

Hi there,

Thanks for contacting the Slide Community Support Team! In light of our
recent announcement on the Slide blog (http://www.slide.com/static/blog), we will no longer be creating new features for Slideshows and Guestbooks or fixing existing bugs in these products.  Instead, we will enable users to either download their photos or export them to a Picasa account in the coming weeks.  Please stay tuned to Slide.com for future updates. If you wish to download your photos now, please follow the steps below.

1. Log into your Slide.com account.

2. Locate the Slideshow containing the images you would like to download.

3. Hover your mouse over the "Options" link to the right of your
Slideshow.

4. Click "Download images" link

5. If prompted, select the location for the zip file of images to be
downloaded to.

Thanks again for all of your support, and we apologize for any

inconvenience this may cause.

The Community Support Team

Original Post:

I have 82 slide shows with Slide.com.  I found the news below by accident, when I went to make a new slide show.  No email or warning came from Google, who recently bought Slide.com.  Now I have a couple of weeks to transfer things over, but it is not clear if the whole slide show will be transferred, or just the images.  Will all of my slide shows be totally deleted?  I sure would like some answers, do you guys have any for me?  I'm going to try and find out more info, now that I have their email address.

I sure hope that Google won't shut down our blogs some day in the same manner as they are handling their Slide.com closure.  I'm just sayin'.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Slide.com will be shutting down on March 6th 2012. As part of the shutdown we have disabled the ability to create new slide shows and guestbooks, and will be disabling the ability to edit slideshows on November 6th 2011. Please make any necessary edits prior to this date. Thanks for using Slide.com!

Update on Slide's products and our commitment to our users:

August 25, 2011:  We wanted to give you all advance notice that in the coming months, a number of Slide's products and applications will be retired. This includes Slide's products such as Slideshow and SuperPoke! Pets, as well as more recent products such as Photovine, Video Inbox and Pool Party. We created products with the goal of providing a fun way for people to connect, communicate and share. While we are incredibly grateful to our users and for all of the wonderful feedback over the years, many of these products are no longer as active or haven't caught on as we originally hoped.

Most importantly, we wanted to take this opportunity to reassure you that we're committed to helping our users preserve their data as easily as possible. We recognize that many of you have stored valuable content with us and want to assure you that, wherever possible, you will have ample time to download that information or transfer it to another service.

For example, on Slide.com, we will enable users to either download their photos or export them to a Picasa account. We are working to release this export feature over the coming weeks and, once added, users will have several months to take advantage of transferring their photos.

Thanks again for all of your support, and we appreciate your patience as we continue to share more details in the coming days and weeks on how to access and save your content from specific Slide products. If you have any questions or feedback, don't hesitate to contact us at feedback@slide.com. Or visit this page for any additional updates.

On a brighter note, Kathy B. over at Spot On Cedar Pond  just introduced me to the coolest resource blog ever: Chickens in the Road.  Check it out when you get a chance; I know that you will not be disappointed!

Scary thought about the blogs. Yikes! I'm sorry about your slide shows. That represents a great deal of hard work on your part, and I imagine the transfer will be time consuming. I'm sorry you got caught in the shuffle.

That is very scary. I hope you don't lose your slide shows! I also worry about blogs being lost.

I've been on blog break. It is good to be back.

So sorry about that. They really have us at their mercy don't they. I just hope we get sufficient warning if Blogger decides to disappear.

Thank you, everybody, for your support. I hope that I don't lose them either, but if I do I can remake the ones that I feel like doing on Picasa ... just extra work.

I'm afraid that my blog will look horrible though, because I have a lot of slide shows embedded into my posts. Oh well.
