Oregon Gifts of Comfort and Joy ~ Kathy Matthews |
Adele, Mary and Kellie
On Sunday afternoon, Cary and I drove over to Salem so that we could get up early to attend an early morning Monday meeting with the Oregon Independent Aggregate Association and guest speaker Attorney Adele Abrams.
The meeting was being held at the Red Lion Inn in Salem. They have spent a lot of money remodeling this hotel, and it looked nice enough, but was still old (as in you can hear people next door, talking and watching t.v.) It was $124.00 per night, and had a pool, restaurant and lounge on site. It was clean, but the room was kind of small. We still prefer going to the Mill Creek Inn when we stay in Salem.
I was downstairs by 7:00, hanging out with Mary and Kellie at the registration table. They were very proficient, as always, so I just welcomed people and made sure they put on their name tag. It was a pretty easy job. Then I wandered around and took a few pictures, and told Kellie that the food wasn't there yet, only the coffee and water. Kellie got that figured out. She's good at those kind of things.
I gave Mary a gift basket mostly full of things that I had made, homey things. Mary is the one in the middle in the picture up above. She is a wonderful person, and it was her house that burned down. Mary liked the gift, and it made us both feel good.

The meeting went well, and Adele was a very informative and interesting speaker.
After it was over, we packed the car and left town. Got out of Dodge. Headed back over the mountain. I was dying to take some pictures, so we stopped at Marion Forks to eat, because we saw that the restaurant was now open for the season. Except that it wasn't really open this week. So I took pictures anyway, because it was so pretty. Here are some of them:

I took a few more pictures as we hit the mountain pass ... sticking my arm and camera out of the window into the freezing air, nearly giving my husband a heart attack as he feared that I would drop my camera out the window, shattering it to bits. That he would have to buy me another one. But, thinking ahead, the strap was wrapped around my wrist. 'Sides that, it is my camera, I wouldn't wreck it, I love it!

When we got into Sisters, we stopped at Bronco Billy's for lunch. I had a Chicken Tostada Grande and Cary had Halibut Fish and Chips. Excellent food, as usual. We drove home and were beat, going to bed early. The end.

Kathy, beautiful photos. Oregon is such a lovely state....at least the area you show us! :)
I guess I missed the post about someone's house burning. That's so sad. How nice of you to give her a basket of your beautiful items.
Hi Becky,
It is two posts down from here ... "An Attitude of Gratitude" Mary's dog woke her up in the middle of the night, smelling smoke ... they escaped, barely by going out onto the roof and down the trellis (she was carrying a very frightened heavy Corgi). They still don't know how the fire started. The only good thing is that she had already given most of her pictures to her kids and most have already been scanned. My heart goes out to her. She really a nice lady.
Kathy
