RIP: Our Sweet Sonny

Oregon Gifts of Comfort and Joy ~ Kathy Matthews

"Four years ago in Feburary, doing what we do
best around here...Dana, me and Sonny."

Well, we are a sad lot over here in Mayberry right now.  Our sweet dog Sonny, an 8-year-old  lab, went to doggy heaven yesterday very unexpectedly.  He hadn't been feeling well, and I took him to the vet in the morning.  X-rays revealed a large tumor in his lung, so we felt that it would be best to let him go, and our vet very much supported our decision.  We are all so sad and miss him very much.  We got Sonny in 2004, and he has been with Cary and me since the beginning.

I think that with this happening and with getting ready for Christmas, I may be hit and miss a bit for awhile on here.  Love to all, and remember to scroll down and see the bunch of stuff that I posted earlier this week ... including the contest.

Take care,

Kathy M.

Oh, Kathy. I'm so sorry. I know how hard it is to lose a pet. I cried when I put up the tree because my cat always slept under it. (He died last November.) Sending hugs your way.

Oh, Grammy P., I am so sorry about your kitty. Thank you.

I'm so sorry to hear about Sonny. What a beautiful dog. I know you'll miss him very much, and saying good-bye to a pet is soooo painful. Sending you good thoughts from Florida.

So very sorry, Kathy, for the loss of your furry kid. He lived a lucky life, to be loved so much and so well. God bless.

Kathy, and Lisa, thank you so much. It is sad, and I am sad, but Lisa, I do think that this doggy did have a good life, like you said. I wish that we could have prevented cancer, but you never can, in anybody.

Kathy, I am SO,SO sorry and I'm sad right along with you. You've probably forgotten, but we had to say goodbye to sweet Tiger Gal last December, too. On the 13th!! Isn't that strange? Sonny was a beautiful dog and I know you loved him very much, and I'm also sure he knew how much he was loved. Sending you hugs...

Oh, Kathy, I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your wonderful dog. I know he was an important part of your family. My thoughts are with you--I'm sure there is a big emptiness in your heart right now. Take care. Hugs, Mickie:)

Thank you so much, Becky and Mickie. Becky, I have been thinking about Tiger's passing a lot ... I didn't forget at all. I had a hard night last night, but time will heal this as it heals all things. I appreciate all of you very much.

I am so sorry for the loss of your sweet pet. They worm so tightly into the fabics of our lives that the loss leaves an emptiness that never quite fills in. You made the only if very hard choice.
You were both lucky for the time you shared.

Thank you, Patti ... you have written beautiful words for me this morning, and I appreciate you very much.

Gosh Kathy, I am so sorry. Pets are very much family and it is so hard when they have to go... sending love waves your way. Hugs and more hugs.

Oregon Gifts of Comfort and Joy said...

Thank you, Lynn ... love waves and hugs back to you! I've never heard that before and I love it ... did you just make that up? :>)

Sorry to hear about sonny. The loss of a pet is always sad, especially when they have been just like a member of the family.

Oregon Gifts of Comfort and Joy said...

Thank you, Nell, it is sad around here ... now I have to figure out what to do with Dana today; she freaked out when I went to work yesterday, and Cary was home with her then. We all have adjustments to make around this joint.

Jessa Irene said...

So sorry for your loss. So sad when there is so little warning. Hugs.

Oregon Gifts of Comfort and Joy said...

Thank you so much, Jessa Irene. We are sad, but are getting a bit better.

RIP sweet Sonny. How very sad for you. I know how devastating it can be to lose treasured pet. The most difficult, but also the kindest thing you can do is to let the pet go sooner rather than later, which is exactly what you did. It's so hard to let go though. My heart goes out to you.

Oregon Gifts of Comfort and Joy said...

Oh, Christine, thank you so much, I appreciate your sweet comments so much. The tumor was just too big to deal with, and we didn't really have much of a choice. He was a great and loving dog. :>)

I am so sorry for your loss. Its difficult to let go of anyone we love, but you made the right, if difficult, choice for Sonny. I hope you will find comfort in your wonderful memories of hime. Hugs

The 2012 Army All-American Day Event

Photo Source: Nike "The Opening Brochure" Pages 2 and 3
During the week of July 5-9, 2011, Cary and I were privileged to attend "The Opening", watching quarterback grandson Tyler Matthews (#43 the first day, and #15 on game days) play with 150 of the best high school football players in the United States. The event was held at Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. I hope that you enjoy the pictures ... some are better photos than others, but I tried to capture as many kids as I could.

There are approximately 500 photos in these slide shows. They are of the players, the fans, our family and everybody/everything that caught my eye. They are in chronological order. No names are on the pictures, even if I do know who people were.

As time permits, I will also be writing blog posts about my experience as a spectator. Since I still have a lot to learn about football and this is not a sports blog, I'll write some human interest stories as seen through my eyes. That said, Tyler Matthews, YOU ROCK!!!!
