As I was going through my old photos looking for something really old of people playing games, I came across these photos of my ninth birthday, and decided that they would just have to do. I turned nine in 1967. My brother, sisters and cousins joined me in celebration at our Springfield home.
Apparently, I got a Ricky doll that year. I didn't even remember who Ricky was until I just looked him up. He is Skipper's friend. Skipper is Barbie's little sister. Did you know that Barbie and Skipper's last name is Roberts? I love Wikipedia. I wonder if Julia is related to Barbie and Skipper? I wouldn't be surprised.
I also received a beautiful bracelet from my Grandma and Grandpa T. that year, and am wearing it in these pictures.

Remember those candles? You burned them down until you hit the marker showing the year that the birthday person was. It looks like we didn't get a good head start that time.

That t.v. cracks me up. A little black and white portable in the corner, with an antenna on the roof, I'm sure. We probably got three channels if we were lucky. My, how things have changed.

What a great post! I don't recall those candles, they sound like lots of fun. But I do remember Ricky now that you mention him. I had Skipper too, although she was not a real Mattel doll, I remember that very well! My Ken was real and so was my special Barbie who is behind glass right now in my living room! One of my favorite memories were the boxes they came in, except my Skipper, and the little booklets that came along with them showing other clothes and such to buy. These are great photos to treasure... you are lucky! Thanks for the memories today!

That is a great cake, no wonder everyone is enthralled. Never seen one of those candles, too late to search one out I would have have to have a ginormous one now:-)
How special! What an adorable cake, too. My mother didn't want us to play with Barbie :-) so we had Skipper and Tammy dolls. I don't remember any boy doll except Ken and GI Joe. Ha.

The candles I remember on my children's cakes were those that relit themselves after being blown out.
I don't think I have any birthday photos (apart from my 21st) and I never had a Barbie, although I do remember having a glamorous Pippa, and a Britt (or Brett?) who was Pippa's perma-tanned friend. I haven't heard of Skipper or Ricky, so perhaps they didn't reach the UK. Love the first photo of you carefully unwrapping :-) Jo
I think I was a little too old for dolls when Barbie was introduced, so I missed out on that fad.
Beautiful memories of your 9. birthday. My youngest granddaughter was 9 in January, she does not like Barbie, she wanted a meccano set. We call her our little engineer! You had a lot of fun with your siblings and cousins. Liked the big eyes for the cake! Lovely photos, I enjoyed your birthday celebration.

What sweet photos! You looked like you had a wonderful 9th birthday. I had a Skipper doll, as well as Barbie and Ken, but never knew of the existence of Ricky! Now I feel deprived... :)
