Kathy's Picks: Beautiful and Delightful Homes And Gardens

Hi!  Many of my newer blog friends may not know it, but I also have another blog named Kathy's Picks: Beautiful and Delightful Homes and Gardens.  On that blog, I offer a variety of different home-related, decorating and gardening ideas.  Today, I am featuring Shanna's landscaping and yard.

My lovely step-daughter, Shanna, does all of her own landscaping design and yard work.  Everything is so beautiful, and she works so hard to make it that way.  Wow!

The guys enjoy hanging out in the backyard too.

Now for the food part.  Shanna made us an Italian style potato salad, and it was really good.  I loved the tiny potatoes, they were so cute.

I know, I know, I take pictures of everything.
It is all good practice.

Here is the recipe from the back of the tiny potato package:

Italian Style Potato Salad
Serves 4-6
Ingredients:
* 24 oz. Golden Temptation "1 bite" potatoes
* 1 tsp. salt
* 1 generous cup of green beans, cut into 1" pieces
* 1 generous cup of carrot coins
* 1/2 medium red onion, cut into wedges
* 3/4 cup light Italian dressing
* 1/2 tsp of Italian herbs
Directions:
* In a large saucepan filled with water, add potatoes and salt. Cover and bring to boil on medium high heat; simmer for 13-15 minutes.

* While the potatoes are cooking, prepare the green beans and carrots.  Place a steamer in a small saucepan with water.  Bring the water to boil and add the carrots.  Simmer for about 2 minutes and then add the green beans and continue to simmer for about 2 more minutes.  Remove from heat, drain and add vegetables to a cold water bath.  When cool, place vegetables on a paper towel to remove excess water.

* When the potatoes are done cooking, drain and add dressing while they are still hot.  Let cool.  Add the green beans, carrots, red onion and Italian herbs and toss.  Serve cold or at room temperature.

Enjoy!

Shanna's yard is gorgeous. I'm envious of her talent. My forte is NOT in the yard. Things at my house grow in spite of me, not because of me. Everything in Shanna's yard is so green and lush! That Pacific Northwest weather helps, I guess. We're in a drought--again--and when it rains here (sometimes not for weeks at a time) we get a huge thunder boomer and it pours for about twenty minutes, passes, and we're dry again. *sigh* Of course, things might look better if I turned the sprinkler on once in a while.

That potato salad looks delicious. I've already copied/pasted into a Word document. I'll be trying it this week! Yum!

Love Shanna's yard and the rich colors of the grass and foliage. The style of landscaping is very different from what we have here in Florida, but I have to say I prefer Shanna's! Here, we have to beat back the jungle, so to speak. When I accept the climate and choose plants that work well in it, I am much happier (and the plants are, too). But I still long for the things that don't grow well here in our hot, muggy weather!
