Bargain Book Bonanza: Featuring Jennifer Weiner, and Storm Country, The Anthology

Oregon Gifts of Comfort and Joy ~ Kathy Matthews

Last week, I was at the Sunriver Library, and was thrilled to find such wonderful bargain books for $1.00 each.  There was one tall bookcase with two sections, and a wooden locked box in which to deposit the money.  It doesn't get much better than that!

I have already finished reading "Best Friends Forever" by Jennifer Weiner, and am now on "Other People's Children" by Joanna Trollope.  This is the first time that I have read any of Ms. Trollope books, and I am enjoying it very much.  The Scrap Craft books are wonderful, and they show you how to easily make quilts and other great items.

I love reading Jennifer Weiner's books!  This was my third one, and I have asked for more for Christmas.  They are fun, there is often a bit of a mystery to be solved, and they are just plain awesome with well developed characters.  I hate finishing the books, because then I have to say goodbye to my new friends.  So far, I have read "Goodnight Nobody", "Little Earthquakes" and now, "Best Friends Forever"

So, I decided to look Jen up on the internet.  Sure enough, she has a website, a blog, and is also on Facebook.  I am now an official follower.  There is an excellent article that she posted on her website that encourages writers and/or those who want to become writers.  She also talks about how to find a good literary agent, and how to go about getting published.  Though the article was written in 2002, it is a must read, which you can easily do by "CLICKING HERE FOR THE ARTICLE".

I was so excited to receive my autographed copy of "Storm Country, The Anthology" in the mail recently.  The Missouri Writer's Guild compiled this book after the devastating tornado in Joplin, Missouri.  The book is definitely a bargain at only $13.95, and $10.00 of that goes toward restocking the libraries of Joplin schools. (The $3.95 is for postage and handling.)  Last week, the first $3,000 was donated!  To find out how to get your own copy, please go to this link:  "Storm Country is Now Available".

One of my favorite blog buddies, Lynn Obermoeller, has a story in the book about locating her friend Geoffrey in the aftermath of the storm.  She is the one who autographed my copy of the book.  Lynn also lives in Missouri, and has three blogs,

Great books and thank you so very much for sharing the links. As soon as I am able, I will have to get a copy of the storm book or at least donate to restocking the libraries. Such horrific devastation. Have a wonderful rest of the weekend. :)

You did such a nice job of arranging the books for the photos.

Nice post Kathy - and thank you so much for all the advertising for Storm Country. The book is actually $10, but the $3.95 is for shipping and handling, just so folks know that the $10 is what goes to Joplin school libraries. They presented the first check of $3,000 at the Joplin book launch - how cool is that - all from the sale of the book!

Kathy, I love the slide show at the top. You've snapped my grandmother's dishes! I'll be on the look out for Weiner's books and be sure to tell you if I find them.
