Welcome to the online diary of a Central Oregon Grandmother (me) who is busy celebrating the positive portions of her everyday life ... along with her best friend husband (Cary). It is quite an eclectic diary and I try to do my best to incorporate a little bit of history into many of my posts. Your visit to our piece of American Pie is greatly appreciated. This chatty Kathy posts frequently, so coming back to visit often is highly encouraged.
Showing you Oregon, one post at a time. Did you know that I post the links of many of my stories and articles on the sidebar? When you have extra time, please scroll down to see more. At the bottom of this page there are links to many other blogs that I enjoy.

A - Z Challenge: "B" is for Basket
During the month of April, I am participating in the Blogging From A-Z April 2012 Challenge, where we post everyday except for Sundays. I have decided to make flashcards for the letter of the day out of my photos, and then use the picture as a writing prompt for the beginning of a story or perhaps even a book.
Thank you for your visit, and please come back again tomorrow! I'll be by to visit those who leave me comments, and also visit as many others as I can. If you like what you see, please feel free to become my newest follower. ~ Kathy M.
Oregon Gifts of Comfort and Joy ~ Kathy Matthews
"The Basketweavers"
by Kathy Matthews
Bill and Becca (of Bend, Oregon) previously had the last name of Brown. After their lives became basically immersed in baskets, they legally changed their name to Basketweaver. It is a good marketing tool, and they are the only folks with that particular last name in Oregon, and perhaps in the world.
The Basketweavers hand-make each and every basket that they sell. They sell them empty and they sell them full. Gift Baskets by Baseketweavers is a thriving business, even in the depressed Central Oregon economy.
Bill and Becca also teach classes on basket weaving. They have spent time in Mexico, Central and South America to learn special weaving techniques Baskets made by the Basketweavers are true collectors items.
Trouble begins for the busy couple when somebody sets fire to their shop and burns all of their inventory. They are both sick over the incident, because they have worked so hard to create each and every basket. Insurance money will only buy raw materials, not create finished products.
Who in the world could hate them so much to blatantly destroy their work and their art? The mystery unfolds in this story of betrayal and triumph. A must read!
Following the theme of the of the alphabet, I am also
featuring this out-of-print book created by a couple of Oregon ladies in
1983. Please come back tomorrow to see the next page in the series:
I confess I'm not much of a basket lover, ever since my experience at a Longaberger party. *sigh* Long story, and one the kids love to hear over and over again...how mom spent $100 on a bread basket. LOL Good story, Kathy!

Beautiful baskets. I sat and watched a lady make one in China. It was cool.
After seeing this challenge, I signed up and will be using Family History as my theme.
