A - Z Challenge: "Q" is for Quartz

During the month of April, I am participating in the Blogging From A-Z April 2012 Challenge, where we post everyday except for Sundays. I have decided to make flashcards for the letter of the day out of my photos, and then use the picture as a writing prompt.  I am using my Thesaurus to make a story out of words beginning with the letter "P", and to have it make sense.  I have no idea of the twists and turns that it will take and usually crack myself up when I am all through.  Hope these little ditties make you laugh too.  The whole list of my A-Z posts are all listed on the top of the left-hand sidebar.

Thank you for your visit, and please come back again tomorrow! I'll be by to visit those who leave me comments, and also visit as many others as I can. If you like what you see, please feel free to become my newest follower. ~ Kathy M.

Oregon Gifts of Comfort and Joy ~ Kathy Matthews

"Mr. Quinn from Queensland"
by Kathy Matthews

Quiet Mr. Quinn was visiting Oregon from Queensland.  As was his hobby in his travels, he loved to search out places and things that began with the letter "Q".  It was just a quirk he had; it quelled his curiosity.  Mr. Quinn was quite quizzical, full of questions, and had a minimum quota for a quantity of "Q's".

While in Central Oregon, Mr. Quinn rented a home on Quartz Mountain Street in Sunriver. After playing a round of golf at Quail Run, he quickly finished a fresh roasted quail in their quintessential dining room.  Then he went back to his place and wrapped up in a quilt.

The community of Quinton also qualified for a visit.  In the 1980's that set of quadruplets were born in Quinton:  Queenie, Quincy, Quiggly and Quinn.  Mr. Quinn had read about that in a book, and always wondered if they were conceived with a quickie.

Then there was Quartzville.  Quinn quaked at the thought, but he had already reserved his quad, and would drive it through the quagmire quickly.

The thought of climbing Quartz Mountain itself made Mr. Quinn a bit queasy.  Still he had hopes of finding a quartet of quartz in a quarry, and hopefully not having to quarrel with park rangers.  Mr. Quinn planned on offering them a quarter or two if necessary, to get his quartz back home.  Above all, Mr. Quinn was not a quitter.

The End.

Actually, "Q" wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.

Following the theme of the of the alphabet, I am also featuring this out-of-print book created by a couple of Oregon ladies in 1983.  Please come back tomorrow to see the next page in the series:

Hello! There you are! Quartz is a good choice. I love to pick up...well...maybe they are Agates...over here near the coast. And then is a Quartz Creek you cross on HWY 26. My Dad's family used to cross that on a swinging bridge to go to the logging camp, and my grandmother had her little butter churn and churned butter as they walked from what was then the end of the 'road' and the camp along the river. I love collecting rocks!

Great job with the letter Q. We used to live in Portland Oregon, so all your talk about Oregon and gifts was very nostalgic. Nice post.

Well, you did come up with a bunch of Q words! (Would anyone have doubted it???)

Gay, thanks so much for visiting! I love the story about your Grandma and her butter churn.

Julie, and thank you too. I know, I miss Oregon when I am away. It is so pretty, and I love the mountains.

Wendy ... only thanks to my handy dandy Thesaurus!

Tammy, that is so cool! I'm really glad that you found a copy of your own.
