Up To Some Good:

First of all, I would like to thank Becky from over at  Becky Povich: Writer - Humorist - Bliss Follower for choosing me as the winner in her contest!  I chose the two books, "Knit One Pearl One" by Gil McNeil and "Never Change" by Elizabeth Berg.  I can't wait to get them.

Second of all, I want to thank my four newest followers: Sheila at "A Postcard a Day", Helen from "Poetry Matters"Connie at "Crafty Home Cottage",  and  Warm Regards from "Travels Through My Past".

Last but not least, here is what I have been doing and why I haven't posted since last Thursday:

Last week, I didn't have to go to work.  This allowed me to catch up on things around here, time spent not cleaning but creating.   I finally finished the t.v. blankets for John and Lisa's new kiddos and got them mailed off.

They were easy to make, but I wasn't in the mood for sewing.  Plus, the presser foot came off of my machine and I thought that it was broken.  That took me about a month to figure out.  Actually, I never am in the mood to sew, until I make myself.   Once I begin though, I want to keep on making things.  Somehow, sewing helps me to switch over my brain from writing and blogging to spending my time using my hands.

I hope that Superman is still cool.  This blanket goes to T.

E. got the one with the pretty butterflies in her favorite colors of pink and purple.

I heard through the grapevine that D. enjoys The Green Lantern.

I received a very nice email from Cyndy, the woman with the Deli and Gift shop at McKenzie Bridge.  I had written to her and told her that I featured her shop in my blog post last week (please click here to see those pretty pictures.)  I made her some sample postcards that I am mailing out today, and that got me excited about making more of them.  On Saturday and Sunday, that is what I worked on.

These are actually prototypes.  They cost too much to make at this point for them to sell at 3 for $1.00; in fact to make any money off of them I think that they will need to sell for $2.00 - $3.00 each.  I used Picasa 3 and Picnik (now included in the free Picasa 3 program).   I also used scrapbooking card stock that comes in those packets for the backing.  If we move forward with this project, we will need to check in with a printing company or two to see how to make them for less.

Here are some of the others that I made before I ran out of ink:

So, what is next on the crafting agenda?  I am making my BFF Patty an afghan as I watch t.v.  I am also trying to figure out how to make maracas out of light bulbs and paper mache like we made in third grade.  I have been saving our burned out light bulbs for a year now (not the spiral ones from China, those are poison inside).

Also, I am getting motivated to organize our 1967 Vintage Shasta Trailer into a store, like I was planning on when we first got it.  I am thinking of revitalizing the "Store Page" on here and the "Oregon Gifts" Facebook page to show what I have, and finish up my other projects.  It is true that blogging is an easier and faster way of expressing my creativity, but making things by hand fills up a part of me that I have missed.

I hope that you all have a wonderful week!

Hi Kathy, you are one busy girl. There must be a breeze that is created as you wiz by, going about your many projects. Where do you get the energy?
In answer to your comment on my blog: the hail did bruise some of the flowers and plants, but two days later, they were all perky and looking fine again. About the dragonfly, I appreciate his wings as well, all the little veins as you called them (sounds good to me, I am not into science and have know ideas of the correct terminology). I just look at how beautifully he was created. Have a wonderful week, Connie :)

Wow! You have been busy. I love to see all the different creative things you do. I think that's a great way to stay creative--having different projects you can turn to keep the artistic fires burning.

There’s never a dull moment in your house Kathy! The quilts look lovely and I’m sure they’ll be appreciated, but the postcards are fantastic; I can see how they used so much ink. What a creative lady!

You do put me to shame. I wish I could achieve half as much as you do. Not sewing though, I can't sew at all.

Thanks so much for the shout-out! :)

Busy busy! I wish I could make myself get back into sewing. I do love it when I get into it, it's just the getting started that I'm slow about. Nice cards!

I hope the kiddies like those blankets. I know what you mean about getting motivated. I'm blaming the heat. Every thing I think about doing involves going outside in the heat, so I decide to stay in by the fan and read a book! hehehe Those postcards are gorgeous, also. That must have been quite an endeavor.

What cool blankets. I'm sure they will love them. I am like you with sewing. Slow to tackle but enjoy it when I get going.

I had no idea you were so crafty.!
I keep saying I need to make some photo cards using some of my photography, but I haven't gotten too it.

Am amazed by your creativity! Those postcards are beautiful, and I love that the blankets are reversible! Bet their recipients will, too.

Hi Kathy, I've been out of the loop for a while (kids in town), but I love your blankets and your postcards. And yes, there is something about actually making things that is very satisfying. Keep it up!
