Weekend in Review:

Last weekend was one of short family visits and eating well.  We didn't end up going to the family reunion, but we met up with other family members instead.  On Friday evening, we had a great dinner of comfort food (ham, potato salad, green beans, green salad and garlic bread) with my Mom, bro and SIL.

On Saturday, Cary's Mom took him out to dinner at "Our Place" in Cascade Meadows R.V. Park.  I was invited, but was too worn out to go.  They ordered chicken fried steak.  We are going to go there again on Tuesday for the all-you-can-eat tacos.  The prices have come down there and the food is delicious, as always (I had a bite out of Cary's to-go box).

Grandpa Cary with Garrett and Gage

Yesterday morning, we stopped by Cascade Meadows to visit with Cary's oldest daughter, Cheri, and her family.  Her husband's family were all gathered together getting ready to head up to Wikiup Lake for a few days.  I'm hoping that we will be able to visit them there over the next few days.

We left them and stopped by my Mom's cabin to get our ladder. Mom had already left to go back home, but I took pictures of the pretty paint job that she has been doing on the trim around her property.

This is one of my very favorite spots.  Nigel and I lived here for about 18 months when we first moved to La Pine.  Here is a link to what it looked like then:  "The Queen of Small Spaces: The Cabin".

I really enjoy the colors that she chose.

I love our family, and appreciate them very much.  I am so glad that they are responsible folks.  It was such a contrast to what we came home to after leaving the cabin, a barrage of phone calls about irresponsibility and callousness towards some pets not being fed for a couple of days.  I'm not going to go into details, but I am so upset right now that I am going to have a hard time keeping my mouth shut when I go to work this morning.

It seems that the people who demand that you take care of their every need, won't go out of their way to help defenseless animals.  Why didn't the owner of the pets make sure that they had food?  Why didn't the kid giving them water make sure that when they didn't have food, report the problem to one of us so that they wouldn't go hungry?  I just don't understand the thought processes of some people.   It took a neighbor to figure out what was going on and get the ball rolling to make things right.  It is very frustrating, and the animals need another place to live in my opinion.

Well, that's that.  I'm kind of crabby this morning with what I need to do next, sorry.  I hope that you all had a great weekend, and a wonderful week coming up.  I did find time to sit in the sun, finish my book, clean house and work on my postcard project.  It was fun to not only make more, but to receive a couple of postcards from my friend Wendy in Virginia.  Thanks, Wendy!

Old Johnson Photos: "Trolling for Summers, Arkansas Cousins"

I woke up this morning and copied these pictures of my Grandpa John "Delmar" Johnson and Grandma Beulah "Agnes" Summers Johnson, my Dad's parents.  I borrowed them from a family member last night, and I hadn't seen the first one below before. By posting it on here, I would like to find some more of my Arkansas cousins.  If you are one, please email me at:  oregongiftsofcomfortandjoy@hotmail.com  ... thanks!

Okay, I couldn't stand staying away from Sepia Saturday this week after all.  Though this isn't the post that I had planned, I did attend my first Mariner's game last summer.  Here is the link to that post; it isn't a bit Sepia but it is aptly named:  My First Mariners Game, June 18, 2011.

Also, this week I did a post about Ichiro's first game as a NYY, and you can "CLICK HERE" to read about that.  I still plan on doing a baseball post about Cary and the 1959 LA Dodgers soon though.

This and That Thursday:

Well it has been a busy week so far.  I've been working, visiting with my Mom, catching up on phone calls, reconnecting with old friends, making more postcards and doing chores.  The weather has been pleasant, and things are fine.  I would like to welcome Anne as my newest follower.  Her blog is awesome, and you can visit her over at "A Little Fur in the Paint".

On Monday, I was at Bi-Mart buying ink and scrap-booking paper, carrying my postcards in my purse.  I showed them to the guy in the audio/visual/electronics department, and he was pretty impressed.  He said that he wished that he could order the extra long ink cartridges for me, that he has tried, but that Costco is the place to go for those.  I knew that Costco carried them, but Bi Mart is much more convenient for me.  Oh, well.

Next, I went over in the sewing/crafts/scrap-booking department, and there was a woman standing there looking over the paper selection.  I couldn't help myself, I whipped out my postcards again and showed them to her.  She was so surprised, but not because of my behavior.  She said "Hi!" and gave me this look like, I know you.  She also said, you don't remember me do you?  I said no ...  It was Cherry from Cherry's Jubilee!  How funny.  We first met at the post office a couple of years ago.  We visited for a bit, and made tentative plans for getting together.  I told her that I would like to come over and take pictures of her workspace and do a blog post on her.  Stay tuned for that, but in the meantime here is the link to her blog, "Cherry's Jubilee"Cherry's work is absolutely stunning.  We are also thinking of calling a meet-up for Central Oregon bloggers sometime.

Here are a few of the new post cards that I made this week; ones that are not of scenery.  I've decided to sell my handcrafted, one of a kind postcards for $3.00 each:

Sports News:

On Monday, Ichiro and the New York Yankees pulled a fast one on us Mariners fans.  Not only was Ichiro an instant Yankee, he was also playing for their team that very night.  Because watching baseball is what we do around here on summer evenings anyway, I grabbed my camera and did my best to take pictures of Ichiro's first at bat as a NYY.  It was pretty neat.  The fans gave Ichiro a standing ovation, and he took off his hat and bowed to the crowd.  The pictures aren't the best, but you can still get an idea of what was going on:

The next night, Tuesday, Felix was pitching and nobody understands what got into him.  Currently one of the best pitchers in baseball, his aim was off that night.  He hit Ichiro, Derek Jeter, and then broke A-Rod's wrist (ruining the rest of his season).  Dang, that was horrible to watch, but if you want to, I got this video off of You Tube:

Last night, Cary said that we were going to the family reunion in Bakersfield.  This morning he says we are not.  As far as I can tell, things are still up in the air, but I hope that he changes his mind once more.  The reunion begins tomorrow evening.  If I'm not on here for a few days, I'm out taking family pictures and having fun.  If I am on here, you will know that we really didn't go after all, but I still plan on having fun.

Hope that you all have a wonderful weekend.
