Last Sunday, Cary and I brought home this sweet little guy, Johnny D. (or J.D.) You can read all about that by clicking here. As Cary was giving into the idea of getting another dog, I threw in that J.D. would be our Valentine's Day gift to each other. I didn't realize that he really would turn out to be a true gift of love.
This little dog has been such a blessing. He came to our home bringing so much love in his little heart. In addition, he is so well-behaved (thank you, Kylie, for raising him right.) You would think that Johnny D. is 4 or 5-years-old instead of 14 months.
It has been fun to watch Dana become his mother and train him up to proper house rules. We kept his leash on him until yesterday, so that we could catch him more easily if the front door was open. The leash also helped with getting him to follow our requests. Dana knows that he isn't supposed to go out front, and herds him away from the door. She also figured out that she could step on his leash to make him stay. Dana began to take advantage of that though, even if we were in the back of the house and stepping on his leash was unnecessary. She is pretty darn smart. She traps him down with her front paw and licks his face and cleans his ears. He kisses her back. It is heartwarming to watch. She knows this guy is here to stay.
My friend April stopped by on Tuesday with her dogs to visit for a bit. Dana was dismayed to have to go out into the backyard, but we didn't want Willie Nelson to be accidentally stepped on during all the excitement.
I call the picture above small (5lb. Willie Nelson), medium ( 8lb J.D. aka: Johnny D.) and large (12 lb. Dixie). Gigantic (70 lb. Dana) is in the photo below.
We are grateful to have found the perfect little boy to complete our family. How about you, do you have any furbabies that give you love all year round?

I have never owned a dog..so I always feel jeaslous when I hear of others.....That stepping on the lead trick is rather neat!
What a little darling he is. I think it's funny that Dana is mothering him, and has already figured out the leash trick. Smart girl.
You probably know this already, but I have a Jack Russell Terrier, who we all adore (she's old now, so she sleeps a lot and is no longer the whirling dervish she was for the first five years of her life) and a beautiful Quarter Horse who vies with the dog for the title of favorite pet ever. They both bring me such joy.
Scout is my first dog, and now I can't imagine being without a dog.
Hi Tony, I have always had one since I was tiny, and sometimes two. They can be a pain and a worry (when they run away from time to time), but they are good company.
Hi Kathy, I forgot about your Scout, but I always enjoy seeing pictures of any learning more about your beautiful horse. I can't imagine being without a dog either.

We've had a long line of pets that have cared for us over our married with kids lifetime. Our current in pictured in my sidebar if you'll take a look. Animals give so much pleasure, and they are amazing in their God-given gifts. I like your new little friend. What a contrast in size and color to your in-house pet! Keep us up on his induction into your family. Sounds like he's loved!

We had two...Maximus(a boxer) who was a part of our family for 8 years, but unfortunately died tragically(miss him so); and a rescue dog, Abigail(an English Mastiff) who we had to give back because we moved. We've had all kinds of pets over the years, but we currently have two very spoiled cats. After our last dog died, we decided not to get another one, because as much as we love them, they're like furry anchors. It's impossible to go away on a whim when you have to worry about boarding a dog.
Oh, welcome to your new baby!!! He's such a cutie! And I love that you have a herder to mother him. Older dogs are a great help that way.
And just so you know... two of your dogs weigh less than our cat... I'm just sayin... teehee
Cats for me, one is hiding right now but I know she's watching me from afar, Miss Carrie Brad'chat, that is. Ophelia o'Chum for her part, is resting underneath my desk, as usual, keeping an even closer watch on me. I love having them around. Ophelia is a darling but I was never able to properly train her for the litter box. Instead of covering her poop with the litter, like Carrie does, she scratches the plastic litterbox. Maybe she thinks the vibration will move the litter over... But that aside, she's the sweetest thing. To think that she was rescued from the washroom at work!! And I got Carrie from a neighbor the day after Igraine died. He was an angry alcoholic with a demented dog, so I think she's better off with me and my girlfriends love her. Me thinks Carrie is a lesbian because she seems to prefer women to men. I'm just saying...
